Renewing passport after passport request

So my parents finally got their passport request after waiting for more than 10 months. My question is it possible to renew the passport after the passport request letter noting that their passport is valid for more than 6 months?

If it’s possible what is required from their side?

better phone your local VFS centre for a definite answer.

I don’t think you can renew it now. Bcz u only have 30 days to submit your passport. And if you still manage to get a new passport within 30 days you have to update it to IRCC through webform which can delay your application.
