Hi

I came to canada as international student in 2000 and got my work permit in 2006 worked for an year or soo and then got another student permit in 2007. In oct 2008 i got my PR, and i left canada in NOV 2008 and only came back in MAY2011. i was working here aftet that and due to emergency i had to leave again in Feb 2012 and came back in April 212, since then i have been here and working. My PR card expires in NOV 2013,

1) i am not sure how my days are counted and will i meet requirement for citizenship before my PR expires?
2) will they renew my PR?
3) How long after will i have to stay in canada after renewal?
4) have they counted 1yr for me from previous years(before becoming a PR)?
5) i know i am cutting really short, but will i be able to take a vacation or go out of country in 2013 maybe for 2-3weeks?

They will not count any time before you got your PR. They will look at your first 5 years as a PR and any rolling 5 yr. period after that.

If you got your PR in Oct. 2008, this is when the clock for your residency obligation starts to tick. You spent a month in Canada after that, then left for 2 yrs. and 6 months. Then stayed for 9 months, then left for 2. Now you have stayed for another 10.

You have been outside Canada total for 2 yrs. and 8 months, give or take because you don't post the actual dates. You are allowed 3 years in 5 so you should be ok to take 2-3 weeks vacation before your PR card expires.

You can not meet the requirements for citizenship any time soon because citizenship is only counted from the last 4 years. Therefore, no time you spent in Canada before you got your PR will be counted and because you need 3/4 years, you can only have been gone for 1 year in that 4 year period. Because you left for more than 1 year in 2009&2010, you will not be able to use any time you stayed before that because once you make it up on the near end, it will have moved outside the 4 year window on the far end. Therefore, you can only apply for citizenship in 2014. You arrived in May 2011 so your 3 year mark since coming back would be May 2014. However, you left for 2 months earlier this year and that pushes your date to July. If you take another vacation now, it will push your date back to August maybe.

Will you have 730 days in Canada in your first 5 years as a PR? If yes, then you are eligible. However, keep in mind that if you are very close with the days, immigration may decide to call you for an interview to make you prove your stays. If they do, it will delay your application.

Any type of paperwork that proves you were in Canada will help. You rented an apartment, have a lease, rent receipts? You had a bank account, used it? Have bank records? You had a job? Old pay slips, tax returns, reference letter? You studied? School records? You ever went to the doctor / dentist? Receipts, records?

Sorry last question.

u mentioned 3/4yrs for citizenship....so now i know i need to extent my PR for sure since expires on Nov 2013.

So for citizenship after i renew my PR, does it mean they will count from nov2009-nov2014 as 5YRS? if so then they will only count last 4yrs out of that which makes it to 2009-2013...? i am so confused how will it work...provided i take like 2-3weeks of vacation in between all this. What kinda hypothetical dates am i looking at?

Citizenship is 3/4 years like I said so they only look at the past 4 years before you apply. You need 1095 days (3 years) to be eligible. I explained to you already how it works with the days. You were back after a long time outside in May 2011. If you had stayed in Canada without leaving at all, you would have reached 1095 days in May 2014. Because you left for a 2 months this year, you will not reach 1095 days until July 2014. If you take another vacation now, you will not reach them until August 2014. I can not tell you any actual dates because you have not told me any actual dates.
