RENEWAL OF PASSPORT WHILE ON VACATION TO PHILIPPINES

Hello Good day to everyone ...i just want to ask ..and hopefully someone response on my question...

I am a live in caregiver and i am going to apply for my PR this May... even if i get my OWP soon around after 3-4 mons as time line of other applicants i am still going to finish my contract with my employer till May 2014...my question is I am going to have a vacation to PHilippines this coming November- February 2014..and my Passport will expire on May 2014... before i go home of course i need to get TRV for my re entry which will going to be stamped in my current passport... so my plan is to renew it while im in Phil as it is much easier than here where we have to go in Vancouver to renew it.. so is it ok when i come back here in Canada my visa is in my old passport while im carrying my renewed passport by that time ???


does anyone have had an experience like this ...please enlighten me cause im confused..as well as so excited to go HOME .. ^_^ thanks everyone

also another question is it okay to travel to Philippines while my passport only has less than 6 mons validity ?? because someone told me passport should be 6 mons valid for international travel ??? ???

Yes, you can still use your re-entry visa in your old passport. Show both (old and new passport) to the IO in your POE. Moreover, you can apply re-entry visa in CEM which only take less than 10days for complete application. And you can get a new passport in PH as well but make sure you get your appointment online at least a month before of your scheduled flight to avoid disappointments. Have your trip organized and well planned.

Yes, since you are travelling back to your country of origin. Six months validity rule applies if you are going outside of your country of origin.

Hi,

I suggest it is better to renew your passport now before you travel. Most of the airports are checking the validity of the passport, it should be at least 6 months before it expires. Since you have more time to renew it why not renew it now before you take a risk?

hello Buleg...hmmmm i was thinking ..is it ok to renew it as early as now ..even if it is still valid for a year ?? and if ever i renewed it since i am going to apply for my PR on May.. when i get my new one should i send a copy to CIC ???

and also i heard that when renewing passport here in Canada we have to renew it in person like for example we need to go in Vancouver personally ... im from Edmonton ..too far and i cant go there ...thats why im asking if its ok to renew it back home ..at least less expenses and much easier for me.... im confused again ... lol ???

yes i also thinking about that too ..because they said they will base you OWP on the expiration of your passport so for me i will only get it till may 2014 if i dont renew it ,,, so yah i think its better to renew it here .. hmmmm think think think thanks though ;D

Yes you can renew your passport coz I renewed my passport 1 yr before the expiration date..There is an outreach program of vancouver philippine consulate..just check their website,they might go to your place.

Actually i havent inform cic yet about my new passport,my pr card is in process, i just renew my open work permit using the copy of my new passport.i was hoping my new passport will not cause any problem on my pr card and renewal of work permit.

ohh i see.. just checked the outreach program of Philippine consulate general sadly they are fully booked till May...in RED DEER which is also far from me jeezz.. me to i applies for renewal of my work permit last feb 4 2012 hoping i can get the new one soon .....i am applying for my PR this May.. i see...maybe they will update that on their own since you sent them your new passport when you renew ur OWP ... hope you can get your PR Soon ..
