Hi All,
I'm looking for some advice and information regarding my situation:
My girlfriend lives in Vancouver -- she's my main reason for emigrating to Canada. I work as a computer programmer in Boston (web applications) and have for about the past four years. I went to University for a couple years, but I didn't finish my degree (I got a really good job offer and left to pursue that).
I've got a job offer in Canada. A really good job offer. They're even hiring lawyers to take care of the Visa and everything. I'm not sure at the moment what they're pushing through (be it a Temporary Work Visa or Skilled Worker Immigration or what) but I was told that I would be a "hard case" since I didn't finish off my degree.
This kind of alarmed me as I've got a lot riding on this, and I'm just wondering what my options are if my visa is denied? I'm in Canada right now on just a regular tourist visa and I'm here taking care of business for the next three weeks or so.
How hard is it to get a Temporary Work Visa in the IT industry? I heard it's very easy, and I even checked out the Skilled Worker test and got a (barely) passing mark of 67, so I don't see what the big deal is about having a degree. Is that going to totally screw me up? If it does, what are my other options? I'd seriously be willing to drive a cab or or wait tables if necessary, or even enroll in school here in Canada so I can stick around and finish my degree.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
