Is it a positive or negative to have a relative in Canada when applying for sponsorship (Philippines outland to Canada) Problem is I have a first cousin who lives and works in Canada but I am not close to her.. not even close enough to feel comfortable to ask for her address. I only saw her 2x when I was a little kid. So do I say yes when they ask that question even if I do not have the address to show, I only know the city, province.

others can comment but do not think a cousin is a close enough relative to sponsor you and has no influence otherwise on an application.

It doesn't matter whether it's a positive or a negative. The answer to the question is still the same - Yes, you have a relative in Canada. Just because you don't know her address doesn't mean she doesn't exist.

I think i didn't make myself clear.. i am living with my canadian boyfriend and we plan to apply for common law sponsorship later.
On the application, they ask if you have relative in Canada.

But on the spousal/common-law application, they ask for you to enter the full address of the relative you have in Canada. I don't know her address.

then you put "Unknown".

why would you think to withhold the truth on your application?

Definitely, for that question, put 'yes'. You do in fact have a relative in Canada, so just say yes, then explain that you are not close to her and do not know her address.
I have seen applicants denied for misrepresentation when they said 'no' to this question even though they did have a relative in Canada. There is no reason to risk it. It is neither a positive nor a negative. Lying on the application is a negative.
