Relatives in Canada - when are they considered ties?

Are aunts / uncles who are already in Canada considered strong ties to Canada? Provided one is not seeking any sponsorship from and won't be living with them, are they still considered to be strong ties?

The application form only asks you to disclose your father, mother and siblings and my assessment is that if aunts or uncles mattered, the application would simply ask you.

I searched for over an hour on this forum but most threads were really only concerned about siblings already in Canada so I thought I'd ask here.

No need to disclose any relatives unless asked.
Aunts/uncles who are already in Canada might constitute (weak) ties to Canada.

Understood. So VO won't just run my name against a database?

And suppose I'm called for an interview and asked "do you have any relatives in Canada", what do I say? My assumption is that honesty is the only way really. Unfortunately, I fear a refusal hence my anxiety.

Truthfully, I am not really in touch with my uncle. While I am in touch with my aunt, I won't really be dependent on them.

The VO can run a cross check. No worries if no form requires you to disclose.

If explicitly asked then you need to disclose.

Understood. And in the light of i) property ownership, ii) assets (some shares) and a iii) job waiting for me in my home country, aunts /uncles in Canada constitute weaker ties in comparison?

One sibling lives elsewhere but not in Canada.

An additional question, for my own curiosity, if one’s sponsor is an aunt or uncle who already resides in Canada, that would be considered a strong tie?

Secondly, in my case, I have 3 aunts and an uncle. Would your assessment still be the same that in light of my economic and family ties in my home country, my aunts and uncle are still considered very weak?

in student visa, things that matter most are your past study grade, study relativity, home ties, fiances(money power) and you are a genuine student. when you apply for student visa only thing, they want you to complete your study and leave canada. On the other hand, when you apply for PR they want opposite like that you will definitely not leave canada :p after PR.

when you apply for student visa show them only that you will leave canada at the end of study (ohh i have to leave, there is no possible way that i can stay more than X year (time of study));)

if they ask you anything no matter what don't LIE. mostly they already know about things but ask just to test you. if you got interview answer only what they ask i mean if they ask specific question answer only that one not started speaking your fears. also remember everything you wrote in SOP or any other document, if they ask anything about that just answer what you wrote already.

Thank you for your message. I don't intend to lie, at all. I suppose the question in my mind is, when they ask this question are they inquiring about one's aunts / uncles etc or are they inquiring about one's family.

Secondly, how big of a negative is it to have aunts or uncles already in Canada? Would this cause my application be refused provided everything else is OK?

i think when they ask any question about some thing you are not sure ask a question like do you mean this sir. always be sure before answer and try to include only about father, mother, sisters and brothers in your answers. they don't give much attention to other relations. but if any VO got little more interested he/she may ask so don't lie then.
