relationship lenght and age diff

Hi everybody,

I spent hours on this topic trying to find answers to all my doubts. It helped a lot but I'm still uncertain of certain things.

I'm from South America, 27 years old, I have been living in Canada (Montreal) since 2012 as a student and I'll be done my graduadet diploma in a month (I cant apply for a post graduated working permit because i already had one once)......

I had a relationship with a Canadian man for 2 years and a half, then... I met my current fiance, we fell in love, I brokeup with my ex and now I've been dating my fiance for only 3 months.

He is 43 and I'm 27, I know it's is a big age difference but we are totaly compatible and in love and we plan to move in together by the end of the month and get organized to get married in a couple of months. We both have the ''buterflies'' in our stomach and we want to apply for immigration (sponsorship) ASAP.

We intend to do a small cerimony with my parents and his parents and close friends only (Maybe around 20 people). Untill our marriage we will have about 6 months of relationship only. Is this a small period of time? Should we wait a bit longer to apply? Should we get married, wait few more months and then apply? Should we get married within 6 months of reltionship and apply right away? Should we just wait longer to get married?

We are a bit lost but we don't really want to wait too long because we don't want to put ourlives ''on hold''. I mean, I wouldn't be able to do anything untill I get my papers and this is really frustraiting...

Anyways... I'd love to hear from your guys

I would get married as soon as you're ready and apply as soon as you have the marriage certificate.

Send as much quality proof as you can. Pictures from the wedding showing your family and friends. Get people to write letters of support stating how long they've known you and that they believe the relationship is genuine.

Since there is a red flag *age difference* and only 3 months of being together......I would suggest to apply maybe after a year from your wedding. I would gather more proofs that the marriage is genuine and continuous. 1 year as a married couple would give you enough time to gather more pictures together or with friends... travel together...etc..

I am suggesting this based on my own experience. My husband is 32 years older than me... We applied too soon... and our file was transferred to a local office....

Reasons: age gap, short courtship, doubting if our marriage is genuine, asking if i'm married back home. That i did not declare my son when i applied for a visa to come to canada.

Month after the transfer, we submitted everything we could to prove that our martiage is true, genuine and authentic. We did this every month until april of 2013.

Aug. 30, 2013 - we received a call in notice from cic edmonton asking us for interview. The requirements the io requested : lease/ rent agreement, pictures from wedding, trips etc., t4, notice of assessment, t1 , paystubs, bills, and option c and bank statements(Most of the req. were tax related, it's probably because the io want to make sure that we have money to provide for our dependent)

Sept. 12,2013- interview day- we arrived at cic edm very prepared! Did not even feel nervous at all! We are confident and we know that what we need to do is to show who we really are!

My interview lasted for 1 hr and 15 min.
Questions asked:
What is my name, bday, my parents name
What is my husbands name, birthday, parents name, siblings and where they live.
Where and when we meet?
Who proposed, describe the moment
When and where is our wedding?
How many people attended? Names of attendees, reception?
1st date? Where when, what we ordered?
Are we sexually active?
Do we want to have kids?
Name of my son, names of my husbands daughter, names of grandkids
How is the relationship between my husband and son

And then suddenly the io stopped typing because she said the computer stopped working. So we started again from the very beginning. I think for me this is to test if i will answer the questions the same thing.

Then, she asked me 3 times in different ways , where do i work, she probably want to make sure that i am not working anywhere else.

Describe our apartment
Who pay bills ?
Where does my husband work?
How much salary?
Do i send money to my home country? How much?
She asked if I'm in Canada
Asked if i have a criminal record or convicted

At the end of the interview, she just said that the only reason why our file was transferred is because of our age gap. Then i said, i know! Lol! I said that , when we applied in 2010, we did not even know that there are red flags like that. What we presented them is the real us!

Then i showed some personal stuff like the crosstitch i made as a birthday gift for my husbands grand daughter, cards from friends and family. Our wedding invitation.

And that's it!

Then it's my husband's turn!!

His interview lasted for 45 minutes. And he was asked the same questions and he answered the same as mine with a little bit of elaboration lol!

When the io told him that our file was tranferred because of age gap, he told the io that this has been happening eversince, just like cleopatra and julis ceasar, charlie chaplin and his wife oona etc. etc. that was the killer answer! Lol!
The io was smiling while typing this my husband said!

All in all the interview went well! The atmosphere inside the interview room was very non threatening, it was actually full of laughter. Me and my husband are very happy people by nature! So i think we really gave a positive vibes inside the interview room.

Exactly 1 month after the interview, oct12,2013, i received an email requesting for medical examination. Then aip and owp arrived on oct. 16.

Medical examination done Oct. 23, 2013.

My husband and I have a 16 year age difference. His file was processed in four months (outland) with no interview required. As long as you have strong evidence to show your relationship is genuine - you should have no issues.

I'm 18 years older than my wife. She's 31 and I'm 49 and we should soon see if we will be called for an interview or not? We lived together for almost a year before we got married, so hopefully that will get rid of any red flags for them.. Anyhow we'll post back here and let you know.. Good luck! 8)

In my case there is a 28 year age difference and I didn't have an interview! They processed our application in 13 months!

There's a 15 year age difference between me and my husband also. We got married 5 and a half months after the day we had met. We documented everything and they successfully processed our application in 4 months. If the relationship is genuine and you submit a well put together, well documented application, the age difference should not matter that much. Good luck.

Wowww, that's amazing. It seems like we will have the same visa office ''sao Paulo'' and very similar situation. 6 months together and 16 years age of difference..

The problems with age difference can stem from the following.

Number one being what is the applicants country of origin. Does that country have a high issue of marriage fraud.

2. Depending on the Visa office that is processing the second stage it may be scrutinized more especially if its a short relationship before marriage and a high age difference, all dependent again where the applicant is from originally.
