Relationship History - How much detail?

Hey guys

Another couple of questions for you lovely people!

1. I started writing a letter for the "more details about your relationship" section and I got stuck on how much detail should I be putting and how formal/personal would you suggest? The first kiss? Where you went on the first date? How gushy should this thing be?!

2. my husband and I have been together for 11 years since I was 18 and married for 9 years. I have plenty of tenancy agreements, joint bills, and wedding photos (no insurance though) to provide but I'm worried still that somehow this won't be enough. I never got an engagement ring and my family never flew over for our wedding in the UK (I'm the Canadian sponsor), plus our reception was at a pub's hire space upstairs (our bosses let us use it for free) and I read that these could be red flags so I'm worried this could be an issue. Surely 10 years of marriage and living together is enough without red flags because of these issues?! I was married at the age of 20 and working in a bar, we couldn't afford diamonds or a big wedding ffs!!

Thanks!! :)

what you just said is the details of your relationship. just be honest, upfront, and don't "try too hard" to prove your relationship. as long as whatever you say, you have a document that can support it, you're good.

Thanks for your reply!

So it shouldn't be like a detailed description of how we met, started dating, where we went, when he proposed etc? Just a more factual statement?

yeah, they are pretty much interested with the facts. of course details of how you met is also important. they just wanna make sure that the circumstances of you meeting each other and ended up living together is not some sort of arrangement or out of fear, or financial reason but instead an actual genuine relationship. i would say the proposal would be something you would want to include, like date and place and if there was some kind of ceremony.

Hi

You have an 11 year relationship and your spouse is from a developed country; the things you've mentioned are not red flags.

In your position, I wouldn't bother with more than a few lines, if that.

The idea is that you explain things that would be a bit less obvious. I met my wife in nyc while she lived in mtl and I lived in Boston. So it made sense how to explain how we ended up meeting in nyc... Being married for that long, I don't think there's any reason to believe they would be suspicious of you being in a truthful relationship. It would have been the longest game ever played to fool an immigration officer... :D
