What do they make so much money for then? To fill out forms? haha

Wow 11 pages is a lot to write. I better start cracking then. What if my spouse can only write in a foreign language and only using pen and paper? Does she need it translated and then have a lawyer stamp it?

needs it translated, yes (French or English) but I wouldn't think that document would need certification of any kind, from lawyer or otherwise.

Don't aim for a certain length. The essay should describe your relationship, but be concise. Don't make the VO fall asleep at his desk :P

Should I include pictures in the essay or keep them as separate loose photographs? I read that they need loose photographs in the country specific requirements.

I would keep the photographs separate. "A picture says a 1000 words." A plentiful variety of pictures reduces the amount of "fluff" you would need to write. I encourage you to pay particular attention to those posting their experience from the same VO as yourself.

Having said that, we submitted 60 loose unmounted photos, and our relationship story was 3 sentences long. But we're processed through a different VO.

My husband wrote a 3 page essay describing our relationship, and also at the end spoke about how I lived in India and how we overcame so many odds in our relationship because of that. I think he mentioned us raising our children in Canada to give them a better opportunity. When I read it it didn't come off as opportunistic, so I think it really depends on how it is written. If you spend the whole essay focusing on that then I can see how it can come off being suspicious.

I think the problem happens because the Immigration officers are suspicious of everyone, they are trained to be. But my husband and I have a genuine marriage. We have two kids for heaven's sake. So we know we have nothing to hide. However, I know it is such a stressful game to try and think from the mindset of these immigration officers. It can drive you crazy.

I personally think if your relationship is true and genuine it will come come across that way, just focus on your relationship and what you mean to each other.

I wrote a much shorter version of an essay...Mine was one page. I focused on our relationship and talked about our children.

Alright thanks everyone. I guess it's safer to leave that out.

wow this is getting really nerve wrecking. :(

hopefully everyone's application will get through in no time and we're all with our loved ones ASAP.

I wish there was an easier way for them to see that our relationship is genuine, lol like an MRI to scan our memories or something, now that would be awesome.

well I suppose we can all dream,

:-X back to the papers

good luck to you all

George Orwell....is that you?? grin

It's confusing as to how to write an essay on yourself. Is it supposed to include a thesis? lol Anyone have any examples they would like to share?

Write it how you would tell a story. I wouldn't aim for any specific length or format.

Lol! This isn't university :P

Just let it flow, then edit for spelling, grammar. Read it again in a day or two and revise.
