Hi,

I wonder how long should be the relationship description story to submit with application?
Is one page enough? Or it needs to be a long essay?

Thanks!

There is no right or wrong answer, it's entirely up to you.

In our case for common-law app, we didn't even include a separate story or essay. We just stuck to the lines given on the application form after each question.

Others will tell you they wrote up to 10 full pages for an essay. It all depends what you think you need to include to show your relationship is genuine.

we both typed up our version of our story and they were both about 2.5 pages for our 10 year relationship which includes friendship, dating, engagement, wedding, and three kids.

We also just stuck to the lines given on the application form after each question. Perhaps our 60 photos or so were overwhelmingly enough evidence on their own.

Hi, many thanks for your answers!

When you say just the answers to questions on form,
are you referring to "IMM5285E-SpouseQuestionaire" ?

we each included about a 1 1/2 page essay.

VO said out case was not genuine. Guess she knew more than us

We didn't have an IMM5285. For us it was question #9 on IMM5490. I had to go and look. Oh WOW! Our relationship development story is . . . wait for it . . .

THREE sentences! Only filled half of the box provided there.

We didn't include any story. (I can't even imagine my husband writing one... not to mention the horrible spelling and grammar errors it would be filled with.)

Instead, we (I) included photocopies of handwritten cards we'd given each other over the years.

Well we did an outland app and for that the Questionnaire is form IMM5490. For inland apps the equivalent form is IMM5285. Both ask the same basic questions, although i notice for the inland IMM5285 form, they really don't give you any space to write on the form and encourage you to use a separate paper. So you should definitely do this if applying inland. Again the length of what you write is entirely up to you.

We are about to send our apps on the first week of February.
We have constructed a 7 page essay of our relationship, How we met, How it progressed etc. etc.
So as anyone here can say its really up to you. Just sit down and put your heart into it!

Good luck

We wrote about 8 pages. It was basically a story from the first night we met to the filing of the application just highlighting the major things. We referenced our pictures and other proof into the story.

Mostly we found the space provided to be sufficient. Only one or two questions where we had to continue on a separate whack of paper.

Just the box. But included a comprehensive amount of evidence.

Ours ran about 5 pages, giving a rundown of our relationship from being friends on line through meeting in person and falling in love to the wedding and filing of the application. We kept it light with the odd ancedote to add detail and deal with something that might need an explanation.

My wife wrote a 4.5 page description of our relationship from the time we first met up to the present. We also prepared a timeline detailing everything from when we first met to the present.

Just be detailed enough to tell your story without going overboard...you want to make it easy on the person who will (might) read the whole thing. By the end, your story should satisfy the visa officer that your relationship is genuine and continuing...
