It could be hard to manage financially, if you have family with you. However, if there is any chance for winning the case, try to apply for legal aid services.
Crown do offer some kind of plea bargain as well. In that case, try to get conditional or absolute discharge for your criminal charges. Highlight the immigration consequences as well. CBSA wont do anything until you have criminal conviction. Good luck

Apply for TRP, temporary residence permit. Explain reasons for your lack of status and efforts you took to overcome your lack of status. Elaborate any humanitarian considerations you could add. Explain them that why you want to stay in Canada until pending charges are resolved.
Dont quit without trying.

Without knowing the charges it is impossible to say whether any form of discharge of charges or minimizing of charges will be possible. When hiring a criminal attorney OP needs to consult with an immigration lawyer so they view your case on the basis of immigration and criminal charges.

Yes I totally agree with you. However, There are possibilities. He is asking for suggestions so that he could decide if he should consider spending his time, energy and money based on the possibilities.

Will really depend on how serious the charges are and what financial position the family is in. At the same time he can't return to his home country without resolving his legal situation or there could be some serious repercussions. It is unclear on what grounds OP is on implied status.
