Hi everybody

I am working here in canada for three years for a company which is headquartered in asia & they have send me on a deputation here in canada. Now i have a renewed work permit with my employer until july 2013.I have received an offer from a new employer based in canada. My question is :
1. do i have to transfer the work permit from the old to the new employer?
2. If i give the notice period , can my old employer ask me to get back to asia and cancel my exisiting work permit thereby
not allowing me to stay inside canada?
3. What should i do next ?
Please guide. I am confused. Thanks for your time .

You cannot "transfer" a work permit. You may apply for a new work permit, but your old one remains valid until its expiration.

No. Your employer has no ability to control your work permit at all. Only CIC and/or CBSA could cancel your work permit, and they would not do so simply at the request of an employer.

The new employer must obtain an LMO for your position (unless there is some reason they or you do not require an LMO - very unusual, but possible.) With an LMO, you may apply for a new work permit. In your situation, the fastest way to obtain a new work permit would be to go to the border and "flag pole" - where you either enter, or are refused entry to the US. CBSA can then process your paperwork at the border and you have your new work permit quickly. Alternatively, you can send it to Vegreville (54 days for an online new employer work permit last I checked). You cannot work for the new employer until you have a work permit allowing you to do so.

The forms for this are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp

Good luck!
