Hi,

I am an aspiring international student in a Canadian institution. I have just recently received my offer letter, and I am planning to apply for a study permit a few months from now. It would be my second time applying for a study permit as my initial attempt in obtaining it was unsuccessful.

Now, my question is, is it possible for my uncle, who is in Canada with his family, to be my primary sponsor instead of my parents?

I used my parents as my primary sponsor on my first application and my uncle as a support, and now I would want to know if what are the chances of securing a visa if I will be using him instead of my parents?

Thanks and I am hoping for a really helpful response from anyone! :D

Were you rejected?
Could you please give us some details about your first application and what was exactly written in the refusal letter? Without knowing the details it is impossible to give you any suggestions.

Hi Regina,

My visa was rejected due to the following grounds made by the visa officer:

1) I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and available financial resources, without working in Canada, to pay the tuition fees for the course or program of studies that you intend to pursue

2) You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay. In reaching this decision, I considered several factors including:
- your personal assets and financial status

For the proof of financial funds, my parents and I submitted a bank statement that shows an amount of AED 80,000 or CAD $24,000. But the amount I wrote in the application form was CAD $22,700 (I am not sure if that was one of the factors in visa refusal). Additionally, we reached that amount by depositing money from time to time with a duration of only one month or a few weeks before I filed an application for my study permit.

My tuition for one year is around CAD $14,000 (+ CAD $10,000 - as per CIC requirement)

Do you think it is better to use my uncle as primary sponsor the second time I apply or still use my parents? What impression do you think it would have on the visa officer if I use a blood relative who resides in Canada rather than my parents? I have been reading a lot of threads on this forum that relatives would either work for or against an application, so I really need clarity regarding it so I could prepare now the documents and not be in a hassle like last time.

Thank you very much!

Parents' money are definitely better that uncle's in Canada.

Additionally, we reached that amount by depositing money from time to time with a duration of only one month or a few weeks before I filed an application for my study permit.
That could be the main reason.
Could you provide CIC with the information about the source of those deposits? You need a little more money then just $24 000. What about the return ticket and some cushion in case of emergency?

What else do you have on your name? What kind of work do you have? Because their second concern was about your ties in home country. They are already not sure that you will go home after graduation and if your uncle is ready to help you with money..... it could cause more concerns. May be your uncle can pay for the first semester and then you show CIC your $24000?

IMHO.

Actually, I am still 17 years old so I don't have anything else on my name yet.

One of my mistakes was, I only paid the tuition fee while my application was already on process in the visa office so I was not able to include it the documents I submitted. The money we used for my tuition was apart from the money shown on the bank statement (which can be on a total of AED 100,000)

I am not a local here in UAE, just an expat from the Philippines. They required a Study Plan and I answered points in there that relates to their specific questions. Of course I am planning to return here after my studies since my parents and sister will be staying here, but I don't know how to persuade them.

I really am confused whether I'll be using my parents or uncle on my second application. I wanna be on the safer side to be honest.

I am here in UAE with my family, and residing with a residence visa. Our country of origin is Philippines. Basically, I am planning to apply for a study permit here from UAE.

Obviously, this was the reason for your visa refusal. Why do you think they ask for your bank statements for the past four months ? They do that to make sure that the amount needed has been in your account for at least four months which means it is yours and not just borrowed for the purpose of getting a visa.

Now, since your money is already in the bank account, you need to wait another 3 months to have the bank statements then apply again. If you can't wait, you can take a student loan and show that as proof of funds.

It would be better if you can show a little more than your exact tuition fees and living expenses.

Aside from salary certificates from parents, how else do we present them the source of funds? Please name specific documents that could be of really big help.

Alright. But if we take loan (not student loan - idk if UAE banks offer student loans to be used internationally) from a bank, do you think CIC would allow it as source of funds (by showing loan certificate)?

Yes, I am aware of those. But I am asking for a few more extra documents that could prove financial stability usually submitted by students to make their case stronger (aside from the ones stated on the site) :D

appreciate your reply!

well if u have any extra documents that u can attach its not gonna harm ur case.. it doesnt mean they will look at ur extra documents but if they do it may help ur case. they require at the minimum what is mentioned in the link. so extra documents without the main documents is not going to work.
