Hi

This is not a new question. I am a PR since Nov 2011. We are a family of four - 2 adults and 2 kids. My wife and kids have already established residential ties in Canada since August 2013.

I, am currently working outside Canada, drawing a fairly good salary. I am aware of the current difficulties being faced by current PR's & residents to secure a suitable job, and hence would like to put in another couple of years more to be more financially sound.

I have visited Canada twice since we have done our landing & have put in a total of 55 days residing in Canada till date.

Below are a couple of questions for which I would like some clarifications on:

a) I am aware of the RO obligation, however I would like to know what are the implications of staying outside Canada for 4 out of 5 years?

b) What are the options I have without risking my PR renwal & Canadian citizenship?

Thanks...

a) Your PR status may be revoked for failing to meet the residency requirement. If that happens, your wife can sponsor you for PR.
b) You need to meet the residency obligation by living 2 out of every 5 years in Canada to keep PR (there is really no alternative for you). For citizenship, you will shortly need 4 out of 6 years in Canada to qualify to apply.

Thanks Scylla for your quick response.

Appreciate if you can elaborate on what exactly you mean by my wife can sponsor me for PR?

Also, Would this in anyway impact my ability to apply for Canadian citizenship later.

She would sponsor your for PR through the spousal (family stream) process. No impact on future citizenship.
