Regarding low IELTS score in Writing

Hi all,

I wanted to apply for post graduate course in some college in Ontario, but IELTS result today shattered it. I got Listening 7.5, Reading 7, Writing 5, Speaking 7.5, Overall 7. And 5 bands in writing is due to injury to my wrist few days before test. Now problem is overall band required for post grad is 6.5 with no band less than 6. Will every college reject me for admission in post grad certificate or diploma, cause of 5 band in writing ? Do colleges accept such cases, in which you have good score in other modules but 5 score in one module ? And the next date for test is already full in all nearby cities. Please help.

You had better drop an email and ask them directly. They are very co-operative in handling questions from international students,

In my humble opinion, there should not be a huge problem considering the fact that you have attained a higher level in other modules & overall band is slightly higher than of what has been required by most cad schools.

Just contact your schools for further information.

Thanks mate, will send email to admission dept. Lets hope they don't have any objection. Problem is it will be next September when I will be able to go, if no college accepted my IELTS

Good luck. It is also good common sense to have all your queries answered directly from your schools before you submit an application fee.

but coming to VO it may be a problem.
u dont have any other chance so keep going

My academics are 60~65% in both 10th & 12th. Did a Bachelor of Computing Science degree from Thompson Rivers University's extension campus in India. Its a Canadian Degree. Just completed it in last month. That is why I got only a week to prepare for IELTS, still managed to get overall 7.

I got one more query, minimum IELTS band required under SPP is 5.5 (for Jan 2013 onward), what is the minimum band required if I apply under general (generic) category in SPP colleges ?

One college (SPP) has given me acceptance letter even though I have 5 band in writing. The course is in accordance with my previous studies. Now should i apply for this college under SPP or General category ?

best way is to call them directly because email may take 1-2 days before they can reply regarding your concern, they are only one who can answer your question
