I hope you guys stay safe in this crazy world.

I have just passed my medical exam and been requested biometrics & criminal record check.
I have couple of friends who are also processing PR application and one of them was not asked for biometrics and criminal record and got PPR. I was curious about how it works.
Does IRCC request those randomly?
My friend was also under CEC. Only difference between me and her is I have a closed workpermit.

I have seen a few posts on here recently where people who had their biometrics completed within the last 10 years did not have to provide biometrics for their PR application. That is probably the case for your friend, given that she has a closed work permit, so perhaps gave her biometrics recently?

I am the one who has closed work permit. She is working under PGWP and been around 2 and half year.
I double checked with my friend and she hasnt done any kind of biometrics. also we have been living in Canada for almost same amount of time ...8-9 years. but only i was requested for criminal check too.

I am not complaining or anything :) I was just curious.
since all service canada has been closed, its just little annoying that I have to wait for it reopens lol

Ah, I read that wrong, my bad!

Ya, I'm in the same boat as you guys. Been here for 11 years as a temp. resident. I can't wait for Service Canada to open so we can get this immigration process over with. It will be great if they can even waive the biometrics requirement until Citizenship application time to fast track things.

Best of luck to you both!

To my understanding it is a regular process, and it need not delay, other than of course the offices opening up to administer!

If your FName or LName is blank... OR otherwise if one of your alternate or given names is the same as another individual who is flagged in the criminal database, it becomes necessary for the Visa officer to verify identity before proceeding.

I am not a legal expert...take it as another opinion!
