Dear All,

I need some clarifications regarding the work history section in EE profile.

In the Express Entry work history section, I created a single entry with following details.

Title : Systems Engineer ( I forgot to mention " Assistant Systems Engineer in my title")
Status: Full-time
NOC : 2173
Duration :01-July-2008 to 17-Aug-2011
Hours : 40 hrs/week

I worked in an MNC Company in the following designations. I know both belongs to the same NOC 2173 as per the Noc's main duties.

Title1 : Assistant Systems Engineer
Status : Full-time
NOC : 2173
Duration :01-July-2008 to 16-Aug-2010
Hours : 40 hrs/week

Title2 : Systems Engineer
Status : Full-time
NOC : 2173
Duration :17-Aug-2010 to 17-Aug-2011
Hours : 40 hrs/week

Is it a big mistake? I believe that this is in no way going to affect my CRS score.

I received ITA, so I am unable to edit the EE profile now. Can I update my job title as " Assistant Systems and Systems Engineer" instead of "Systems Engineer" while submitting my e-APR?

IMO job title wont hurt, Its the roles and responsibilities that does the magic. So dont sweat too much about the job title. Good Luck.

Thanks, nmeka.

I have approached my HR to get the experience letter. My HR might provide a single letter stating both my designations.

Stanlee one more thing, I am using your reference letter template. Really thanks a lot for coming up with a template.

1) Can I ask my HR to give it in the below format for both of my designations?

2) Next to my designation, I asked them to mention the NOC code. Is it good idea to mention it or the CIC officer might not like it?

Details of his employment are given below:
• Designation1: Assistant Systems Engineer (equivalency NOC 2173, Software Engineer)
• Duration1: 01-July-2008 to 16-Aug-2010

• Designation2: Systems Engineer(equivalency NOC 2173, Software Engineer)
• Duration2: 17-Aug-2010 to 18-Aug-2011

• Employee ID:
• Type of Employment (Full time/permanent/part-time): Full time
• Hours of Work/Week: 40 hours
• Department:
• Reporting Manager:
• Annual Salary:

1. Yes, you can. Ensure to mention both full-time and permanent as well, as some jobs might be full-time but not permanent. I am assuming the duties and responsibilities for.each designation would be more or less the same.

2. There is no need to mention NOC in the reference letter. NOC is something specific to Canada and in no way related or of any significance to your employer who is issuing the reference letter. Also, in future if you want to use the same letter to apply for jobs, it is better to keep the letter generic without any NOC mentioned in it.

Sure, I will check with the HR to mention both full-time and permanent. Yeah, that is a good idea to keep the letter in a generic format.

For my current job in Canada, I work as a bioinformatician in research field. The NOC code for this job mainly focusses on wet lab biology but I work mostly on computational activities of biological problems (i.e., 65% of computational framework and 35% of biology).

My job profile listed 10 duties, out of 10 only 3 are somewhat related to the description mentioned under the biologist and related scientists NOC duties. Is it fine?
That is the reason, I mentioned the NOC code equivalency next to my designation.

Also, I heard that people should not just copy the noc code description for their duties and responsibilities. Is it true?

Duties and responsibilities carried out by you should match the NOC duties at least to the extent of 60-70%, not in terms of exact wordings but in terms of the spirit of the role. As far as I can understand, in your case the match is only to an extent of 30% which I an afraid is not enough. Even in such a scenario mentioning the NOC I'm the letter will not help. The best way out is to draft duties and responsibilities that is a close match with the NOC and get it approved by your employer.

Yes, your understanding is correct, do not copy the exact wordings of the NOC duties and responsibilities. Try searching on the net, you will get lots of similar duties which you can use to draft your letter.

I took the following things from NOC 2121,

Example Titles

anatomist
bacteriologist
bioinformatician
biologist
botanist
...... many more

Main duties

Biologists perform some or all of the following duties:
Plan and conduct studies of the environment, and of the population, distribution, structure and functional characteristics and behaviour of plants and animals
Conduct ecological and environmental impact studies and prepare reports
Study, identify and classify plant and animal specimens
Conduct experiments in plant or animal growth, heredity and breeding
Prepare reports and plans for management of renewable resources
May supervise biological technologists and technicians and other scientists.

Microbiologists and cell and molecular biologists perform some or all of the following duties:
Conduct research into the structure, function, ecology, biotechnology and genetics of micro-organisms, including bacteria, fungi, protozoans, and algae
Conduct research into the structure and functioning of human, animal and plant tissues and cells
Conduct studies into the identification, effects and control of human, plant and animal pathogens and toxins
Conduct clinical or laboratory studies to test, evaluate and screen drugs, pharmaceuticals and nanoparticles used in biomedical applications
Conduct molecular or biochemical studies and experiments in genetic expression, gene manipulation and recombinant DNA technology to develop new or alternative methods of producing products
Conduct research in biotechnology to discover, develop and refine, and evaluate new products
May participate in the commercialization of new products
May supervise biological technologists and technicians and other scientists
May conduct biostatistical data analysis using computer modelling techniques.

Biologists and related scientists may specialize at the macroscopic level, in fields such as botany, zoology, ecology and marine biology or, at the cellular and molecular level, in fields such as genetics, immunology, pharmacology, toxicology, physiology, pathology, bacteriology, virology, biotechnology and bioinformatics.

If your reference letter is 60-70% match, then you are good to go.

Hi I'm in a similar situation. I have had two titles in the same company- software
Engineer and associate software engineer. Should I mention both in my express entry profile or just the latest one?
