Hello all,

My wife and I applied for Canadian citizenship in June 2013 from Edmonton. We received an invitation letter dated October 22nd 2014 to attend for the test being held on November 28th 2014. We had made a 20 days trip back home to see our parents on June 13th and back on July 4th 2014. Since we were out of the country for about 20+ days and I didn't inform the CIC of the trip. Is this going to affect our application while we get interviewed after the test? This is a concern for both of us and anyone who knows someone who had similar kind of scenario, would you be able to let us know what happened. The fact that there were no trips made outside of Canada between May 2010- June 2014, I have a feeling we may be in the safe side but we are reaching out to you in a hope someone could help us in solving this riddle.
Please help!

Thank you ever so much!

Hey there, i was in the same situation as you. I applied first week of May, and went to visit my parents outside of Canada for 3 weeks. That did not cause any issue for me. After my test and during my interview, the officer asked me if i made any trips outside of Canada during the processing of my application and told him as per the above as well as some other week end trips to US. It was no issue at all, for me at least, as he gave the Oath invite right after and now i am a Canadian Citizen.

At the end, as per what a lot of people in this forum advise, it s all about telling the truth.

My advise would be to concentrate on studying for the test. It is easy but good preperation is in Order ;).

Congratulation for your Test Invite and hopefully you will be a citizen very soon :D.

cheers.

I think you do not require to mention to CIC about the trip as you made it after the relevant period (May 2010- June 2014) and CIC won't even bother about it as you have already met the eligibility.

Thank you Mrecha for the reply. So your advise is to be upfront and tell the officer that the trips were made after the application of course if the question is ever raised. I know a lot of people have given their mixed suggestion as to what to carry with you at the time of test. May I request you to kindly share with me the list of documents that you carried with you for the interview after the test please? This will help me better prepare. I feel remorseful for not keeping copies of documents that were sent to CIC when I applied for the citizenship.
Thank you for your wish and looking forward to hearing from you.

I would suggest telling the officer only if he/she asks. Basically, he/she will be conducting the interview and answer what he/she needs to know, there is nothing to worry about.

I brought all the supporting documents that i initially sent with my original application. At the end the officer only looked at my passport, my PR card and my landing paper. But make sure you bring all the documents you had sent to support you application as i saw other people that were asked to show more than what i have been asked myself.

Hope that helps !

Don't worry wish you good luck for test. One of my friend applied in November 2013 and went back to home country in December 2013 & came back when received letter for test in July . Now he is citizen now. When cic staff asked him why after application you left canada for long period he explained with documents that due to illness of his parents he left Canada for long period.you are only ashort period away so you don't need to any proof except you are on holidays or family visit etc.

During the processing of the application, you should inform CIC of the following:

you change your address,
you plan to leave Canada for more than two weeks in a row,
you are charged with a crime or
we do not contact you about your file within the posted processing times.
