It all has to start with the employer advertising the job on sites like JOB BANK for a minimum period (14 days in many cases). He has to prove that no Canadians or PRs applied with the required experience. Once he has done that, the employer then has to apply to get the LMO from the government which will acknowledge that he has tried and failed to get a Canadian, and that the hiring of a foreign worker would have a neutral or positive effect. The employer then provides you with an original full time job offer, wages must be the prevailing rate in the region and the job offer must match the job posting/LMO. It can take a number of months to get the LMO and the length of time to obtain the work permit will depend on which country you apply from. Hope this helps.
