Hi,

Back in 2008 summer, i travelled to US with a “work and travel” program.
In travel phase, we wanted to see the Niagara falls too. So we had a rented car with navigation; we typed Niagara Falls and started driving. It was too late for anyone in the car (*facepalm*)to notice that we left the US and we are at the Canadian border.

Since we did not have the required visa to enter Canada, they sent us back after inspecting the vehicle and going through our passports. This was my old passport.

As I’ve learned, I will need to declare refused entries to Canada after getting an ITA. Do you think this will be a problem? Do you know about any similar cases?

Ideally, refused entry should mean 1. You applied for visa and refused or 2. You had visa but visa officer refused to let you in Canada due to xyz reason.. In your case, you should not face any issue in your profile.. Additionally, you can explain in LOE for the same

did they register your name or any of your family members in their system or something like that?

Yes you were refused entry.

Yes it is in their system along with the details of everyone who was in the car.

In your e-APR and schedule A background declaration you must declare this refusal and note the reason/explanation. If you omit to declare it, you will have a bigger problem and become inadmissible to Canada for 5 years.

Thank you. I don’t intend to hide it.
It was a stupid mistake. I hope it does not cost me after 10 years.

This should have no issues, as that crossing is most popular for mistaken border crossing. But ensure to declare it and give explanation in your LOE, that should be enough,along with scan of the stamp page in passport

Sorry, I ve searched for this but could not find the answer;

“schedule A background declaration”
When&where do I submit this form? Is it one of the forms that every ITA receiver submits?

The border refusal will not affect your application in any way. You also don't have to explain why you were refused or include any passport stamps. All is needed from you is to check yes for the question and mention in your letter of explanation the date and place of the refusal.

Schedule A is form 5669 you will eventually be asked to complete it and upload it.
