Refusal on Online TRV for Retired Parents in India

Hello Experts,

I need your help in re-filling TRV for my retired parents in India.

Online Submission : 15th Feb 2016
Outcome Declared : Refused on 18th Mar 2016
Reasons for Refusal : 1. No travel history
2. I am not satisfied that you have sufficient funds, including income or assets, to carry out your stated purpose in going to Canada or to maintain yourself while in Canada and to effect your departure.

My parents has never travelled in the past so no question of having a travel history. They have shown a fixed deposit of 20 lakhs along with the bank statement with the balance of 1.8 lakhs. I would appreciate if someone can recommend me what would be the possible documentation to counter above reasons of refusal.

How many days of staying in Canada did they mentioned in their previous application? It's generally better to say for a shorter time such as few weeks.

Are these fixed deposits on a cumulative interest basis with interest payable on maturity..... or is the interest credited to their bank accounts on a regular basis?
If these are cumulative interest FDs then the available funds for their visit will be only their bank balance.... which is very low.

If the interest is credited on a regular basis then do include FD interest certificates + a letter from the bank(s) stating these FDs are not locked-in/not mortgaged and can be liquidated, if required. Also, mention this point in the covering letters as available funds for their visit.

This amount is very low.... and would not cover the airfare for both your parents + approx. CAD 1000 per week of visit


Do your parents have a joint bank account ie for the balance of INR 180,000?
Are the FDs owned jointly by your parents?
Do your parents have any other source of income.... shares/stocks, mutual funds, pension funds (either short-term locked-in or available), rental income, etc?
What other ties can your parents demonstrate to India?

Hi,

They requested for 3 months stay in Canada. Also i am now attaching a confirmed return ticket (fully paid) while refiling their visa applicaion. Does that help ?

Three months is a long trip for someone with no travel history. I'd recommend you go with three weeks instead.

Thanks for reverting back. This is an individual FD on my father's name and he is getting regular monthly interest in his bank account. Also this bank account is not joint account because i have shown my father as the Primary applicant so showing all the funds under his name. Is that a concern while filling as joint applicants. Also i am attaching their confirmed (fully paid) ticket next time so having enough funds for airfare won't be an issue anymore. Also you mentioned that $1000 per week is required for their visit - Do i still need to show those funds if they are going to stay with me and i am attaching my Canadian Bank statement with sufficient funds ? Kindly advise so that i can take care of these thing at the time of re-application.

My entire family is living back home with my two sisters and their families. They have their own house since 1996 where they are staying currently.

Even though you will submit their applications together, your mom must be able to show that she has some finances of her own for her visit. A joint bank account would have helped.

CAD 1000 per week is only a guide, and applicants must be able to prove they can pay for their visit (not just for their airfare).

Their savings account balance of INR 180,000 is very low for both their TRV applications.


If your sisters are married and live with their families then this will not help as family ties. You may want to prove that your parents have other ties apart from their property ownership


IMO only your dad must apply for a TRV alone.... by showing your mom and their property as strong ties. Your dad must add your mom as a joint bank account holder.... and you can then apply for your mom a few months later (short visit of 2-3 weeks)
