Just a thought. The Canadian Government is bringing in 25,000 refugees. They plan to screen them either medicals and background checks over the next month and a half. Is this going to affect our applications processing time???? Any thoughts????

In my opinion, probably will. Processing 25G refugees in the next 6 weeks will likely use up a lot of cic resources. The liberals have to put spousal PR application on the backburner until the refugees are straightened away first.

Well hopefully they will hire people to make up for some of the extra work. It'd be insane not to. Hey I hear CIC call centre is hiring!

Don't even get me started on this particular topic. :-X >:(

It just sucks! Honestly I am all for helping out people. But shouldn't the government put Canadians first??? It is unfair that I have to probably now wait longer to get status on my application!!!!

It's so shitty. Partner & I were saying they should be putting Canadian families first. Partner is my sponsor and he's furious.

IMO, If the plan is to simply get them into Canada, that shouldn't take a lot of CIC SCLP resources. It should be other branches of government that will figure out how to do that (such as military help with transport and temporary housing at military bases) and Health Ministers to figure out screening protocol. The security screening would also be done at a much higher level than CIC, perhaps at the CSIS level...maybe?

When it comes time to actually process the applicants for PR in Canada...it will undoubtedly impact everyone that's patiently waiting in line.

I'm as compassionate as anyone else, but in light of the recent events in France, the Liberals should think long and hard about which is worse:

1. Breaking a campaign promise, through no fault of their own.

2. Keeping a campaign promise, because they're too stubborn to back down.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, the gov needs to do this properly. It shouldn't be rushed, and in my opinion getting 25,000 people here by the end of the year is rushing the situation. They can't possibly have the resources to do full security checks on that many people in 6 weeks and if they do then why do some people get stuck in background checks for months on end? By all means stick to the commitment of the number but the time frame needs to be realistic.

Hi guys,
Please take a moment to have a look of this petition

The world seems like a really bleak place right now. Germany VS Netherlands football game evacuated because of a bomb scare.

Thing is, it is the United Nations who screen refugees, not Canada. I seriously hope Trudeau lets go of his pride and considers delaying the refugee promise until better security measures are put in place. If he lets them in and something happens which is linked to a refugee, then he will look like a complete moron.

He needs to put Canadians first.

The UN only does the first round of checks, Canada do their own as well.

Not the most reliable source but the quote below is from Peter Showler, the former chair of Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board.

Showler said the screening of refugees, which involves three different phases, is robust.
First, the UNHCR has already triaged the refugees and assessed those that would make ideal candidates for re-settlement, he said, noting that less than five per cent of asylum seekers make that initial cut. For these candidates, there is additional security screening so that UN officials can learn their stories, he added.
Second, Canadian visa officers conduct more screening and interviews with this group to ensure there is consistency in their cases, he said.
And finally, there is an additional security review of the candidates by Canadian security agencies, including CBSA, CSIS and the RCMP
.

Some of them will not even be screened until they are IN Canada. http://canadaam.ctvnews.ca/mobile/mass-resettlement-of-syrian-refugees-has-already-begun-sources-1.2654937 Absolutely ridiculous.

Well, people wanted this Justin Bieber pretty boy and there you have it! Wait until carbon taxes and all other fun liberal-global-warming-loving things come into play. Oh yeah and he would legalize pot! That's why he is a PM now!
Honestly, I am more concerned about possible terrorists attacks that some of these 25k of refugees can cause here.

I just hope it does not affect the waiting time for PR status. Now that I think about it they would most likely need to go through higher security screening! I guess we will see if the processing times change!

And if we all worked there -we will do a way better job then the staff there right now.
