Hello,
Considering the backlog and delay in refugee hearing in some of the provinces, is it faster to get refugee hearing in any of the Atlantic Canada provinces and is it advisable to seek asylum in the Atlantic Canada provinces?

Where are you now? Have you already entered Canada and, if so, when, where and how?

They are processing applications first in, first out, so it doesn’t matter where you go. It’s a federal program, so it won’t make much difference in processing times.

I am still in Nigeria
Hope you have a really good "basis of claim", or you will probably be refused. There is a myth that Canada is very easy to claim refugee status in. Not so much...

Also the acceptance rate of asylum seekers from Nigeria is maybe 50%. There has been a recent influx of asylum seekers from Nigeria who obtained US visas with plans to cross the irregular border. Most of those applications will be denied. I am sure this situation has been in the Nigerian media so wanted to stress that it is actually quite hard to get asylum and to make sure you have lots of proof about your persecution.

What about PR applications as a protected person. Are they also processed in federal or provincial?

PR applications for protected persons are processed by the IRCC, which is part of the Federal Government. Meaning, it doesn't matter where you apply from, everyone will have to send their application to the CPC in Mississauga anyways.

Got it, thanks. Because I heard that I can get PR faster, if I apply from Saskatoon.
