I am about to enter canada crossing from the US border and request asylum

Do refugee climant receive any government aids like financial help or housing untill the IRCC determine their status as a true refugee or no and give them refugee residency? I mean during the period of determination untill the judge decide whether they are considered refugee or no??

What kind of help they receive if any during this time period?

You will receive financial assistance around 700-800 per month determine your financial condition and shelter home which is shared with many other refugees. You will get work permit in a month or so. You will be eligible to work full time.

Work permits are taking up to a year at the moment.

If you qualifying for a US visa you must have shown that you have savings. You are expected to use your savings. If you don’t have any savings you are given a very small amount of money to live on. Realistically it is very difficult to live as someone receiving welfare. You will have to share an apartment with many people and as soon as you buy food that will exhaust most of your welfare payment. There is a huge backlog for applying for asylum so it is taking up to a year to get a work permit. Your bigger issue is that you are a dual citizen. You will need to show that you have nowhere else to live in the world where you aren’t facing persecution. Considering you haven’t attempted to live in Argentina that will be a serious roadblock.

That is very incorrect. It now takes 8-12+ months due to huge backlogs. That may have been possible in the past
