refugee claimant name change

Hi. I am a refugee claimiant and i would like to change my name. My claim has been referred to IRB but i haven't had a hearing yet.

Is it better to apply to change my name now, or after the hearing, or after the PR or after the citizenship?

You can’t change it legally without any status in Canada. You may have to wait until you get citizenship. Would focus on your asylum claim first before thinking about changing your name.

If the name change isn't urgent, it might be easiest to wait until after you become a permanent resident. If it is urgent, you can apply now but be prepared to update documents and possibly face some delays in your hearing.
