Hi - Question on references, can i add someone who is in US as a reference (who is in a different timezone from mine) ?

Do i need to mention that, that reference phone number is US's one?

Also, do they call references and guarantors for every application or is it only for urgent/express application?

Thanks in advance.

There you go =>

References
You need 2 references for your travel document application.

Your references must

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have known you for at least
    • 2 years for passport applications
    • 6 months for certificate of identity and refugee travel document applications
  • agree to you using their name and contact information for your application
To avoid delays, make sure your references are available if or when we need to contact them.

  • For example, they’re not travelling outside of the country.
  • If they’re in a different time zone, it may take longer to contact them, which could delay your application.

It depends. They don't call guarantors / references for everyone. They could be doing it randomly for QA purposes. My guarantor and my references were never called and mine was an in-person Express service application.

Thank you very much, I want to check, if a US phone number can be entered for a person outside Canada as a reference.

Might be possible, yes. As long as they can answer the call from Passport Canada if called, I don't see why you can't use a person in the US as reference.

yes, as long as its with correct area code
For example, write 1 - XXX - XXX - XXXX

Thank you again, it is not by default, all the canadian phone networks (by default) allow you to dial a US number (even though, it is the same country code), so, i wanted to check on that.

the references can be permanent residents not necessarily Canadian citizens?
