Hi!

Im just getting all of my paperwork together and hopefully will be sending our app to Mexico City within the next few days. My question is if its a good idea to have a few letters from references basically stating my character of a person and maybe that they fully believe that my intentions while in canada are in fact, what i say they are?

CIC don't require any reference letter for a visitor visa application. They will trash such papers.

Thanks for your response, now is this your opinion or fact? I did have someone tell me it was a good idea to have them do so as that is what they sent with their app and they were granted the visa. whether or not it worked, i dont know... Can anyone else support this?

Please read what CIC require:

There is nothing wrong if you attach some kind of recommendations or reference letters about your character and intention of visit to Canada.

All required documents must be included with your application:

You must have a valid travel document (such as a passport).
Two recent passport photos of each family member are required. Make sure these photos meet the requirements.
Enclose the application fee. Your fee will not be refunded, even if your application is not accepted.
You must provide proof that you have enough money for your visit to Canada. The amount of money may vary, depending on the circumstances for your visit, how long you will stay and whether you will stay in a hotel, or with friends or relatives. You can get more information from the Canadian visa office in your country or region.
You may need to include other documents. These documents could be identification cards, proof of employment, a letter of invitation from relatives or friends in Canada, or a proposed itinerary. Check the website of the visa office responsible for the country or region where you live for more information.

They won't trash it. Send it in... Just make sure it's from a notary in the society like a prof or Doc or lawyer or a religious leader. It's helps if another person gives a second opinion about you. It doesn't mean it would increase or decrease your chances but it sure helps. From personal experience.
