My previous company where I worked about 5 years ago are not providing me a reference letter. Is there any other document that can be substituted for it. What else are my options?

Do you have pay stubs? Employment contract? Any letters from the company addressed to you? If your old employer refuses to provide it then there's nothing you can do about that, just provide what you can and explain it in the letter of explanation. Make sure to also provide contact details for the employer. In short, CIC wants to see evidence that you actually worked there, and that you've done everything in your power to support that claim.

If you are unable to get it from your previous company, you can ask your ex-colleague to issue you a letter on white paper with all the required points along with a copy of his visiting card and company ID card and get the letter notarized. Also attach a Letter of Explanation (LOE) for this.

Along with this you can submit pay stubs, experience letter, offer letter and letter of appraisals if available.

Yes I have pay stubs for about 3 months, appointment letter and relieving letter.
Thanks for the advice. But my question is will this definitely work or can they reject my application over non submission of ref letter?

It should work, in all probability. However, nobody can be 100% sure about this. In case you have tried your best to get the reference letter from your ex employer and still unable to get it, then your best bet is to do as suggested above. Be positive and everything will work out fine. All the best!

Thanks for the reply.
After I left the company, the project I was working on got shut down, so almost all of them left the company. And right now I am not in touch with any of my ex-colleagues, still I can try. One more thing, does it has to be my supervisor or manager or will any one else's testimony be sufficient?
And I do have pay stubs and other employment related documents with me.

People have been successful with substitute documents. Just make your case as strong as possible.

I am the same my docs will be:
- LOE explaining situation
- standard facts letter letterhead (all except duties)
- plain paper from previous line manager (notorized)
- self notorized list of duties performed
- Tax returns for the 2 years
- resignation acknowledgement letter
- Pension fund receipt letter
- My copy of contract (signed by me but not them) but does not list duties
- a few other bits I found

I have also 'claimed' to have worked there in my past 3 work visa applications so it's likely under my name in their system they already have it listed as a previous employer which may help back up my credibility.

It's highly unlikely they will reject it if you explain why you haven't provided exactly the things they wanted. They understand that sometimes these things happen and that it's out of your hands, and if they need anything else to verify your claim, they will ask for it.

Thank you so much. I am new to this forum and this proved out to be a really helpful and supportive place. Really appreciate your time.
Also I have email conversation, I think that should suffice.

I think I can manage to get most of these documents myself and then hope for the best.

Hello Friends,

Need advise that my previous company is not willing to provide me reference letter on letterhead. Even my colleagues also denied to give me letter.

Can I go self affadvit in stamp paper and Notarised it.

Just for information,
I have salary slip, experience letter, designation acceptance letter, Appointment letter. All required documents for further evidence purpose. Is this enough
