Hi guys,

I'm trying to write a good reference letter with my employer. I was employed a total of 31 weeks (Apr1st - Nov1st)
-22 weeks were full-time (30+ hours)
-3 weeks were part-time (-30 hours)
-6 weeks were off (no work)

We initially wrote xxxxx was hired as a xxxxx (NOC xxxx), working a minimum of 30 hours per week at a $xx/hour rate.
Considering there were part time and off-work weeks. We are not sure if we should write this section differently.

Any advice is welcome, thanks

I would suggest be a bit more specific. Is this for your Canadian work exp? or work exp in your home country? Does this work exp. contribute to your overall points? If this is your Canadian work exp, then does it help you, since its much less than 1 year of work exp? If you provide more details, someone might be able to help you out.

Hi joshi_spj,

This is for my Canadian work experience. I have Canadian experience in 2 different skill B NOC codes, I worked for 3 different employers in a period of 3 years. This reference letter is from one of them.

Thanks for your help.

OK, AFAIK (correct me if I am wrong), the work experience only contributes towards points when its "Continuous and in the same job" for atleast an year?
So i am assuming your "other" work experiences are the once which are fetching you points and not "this" one? if that is correct then dont worry much about the wordings of this particular letter, what you suggested looks good enough to me.

I assume this is your current employer, and you have other work experience, right?

You're close, but you need a little more information so that the VO will be able to calculate your length of experience. You could do a couple of things - either total up all the hours for the 3 part-time weeks and add that to your bullet list, or provide a table or spreadsheet indicating hours worked for all 31 weeks.

As for the weeks you didn't work, you simply identify them. It's not a problem, just need to specify in the letter. Otherwise the info in the letter won't match your other employment records - You will need to provide the T4 (or if it is from 2016, copies of paystubs).

Good luck!

Happily, that is not correct. Canadian experience does not have to be continuous or in the same NOC, just needs to add up to a full year of full-time employment (or the equivalent).

Hi jes_ON,

Thanks for your insight. I have worked for 3 different employers in Canada, in skill B NOC occupations. This reference letter is for my 2014 work experience. I have work experience in 2015 and 2016 too. I'm trying to collect well written reference letters from all of them.

Thank you

OK, so another document you can include as an "employment record" that would make your life so much easier is the Record of Employment. (You can't get the ROE if you are still in the same job, only after termination of the job).

You should already have one for every job you have worked, but if not, you can either ask your employer, or get it from Service Canada -
