Reference Letter from Emloyer for last 3 years...

Hi Guys / Seniors

How important is to have Job duties listed on the reference letter for experience not accounted for CEC 2 years experience?

As required by CEC, we need to provide up to date reference letter on a company letter head with all details mentioned. They also required you to have job duties....but as per the criteria, you need only 2 years of Canadian experience for CEC and but still we have to provide reference letter for the 3rd year,.


So how important is to have job duties listed on the 3rd year of experience which is not important for CEC 2 years requirement?

In the document checklist, it has been clearly mentioned that:
"up-to date letters from your past and current employers for the past 3 years

Letters must include the following information:
...
...
your main responsibilities and duties for each position
.
.
."

Based on my experience of having a returned application, I recommend you to pay attention to every single word of this document checklist, and try to provide whatever they have mentioned, exactly the way they want it.

Hello CEC Applicants,

I have seen people struggling here to get proper reference letter ( including Job duties ) even for 2 years of experience in Canada and hence they are providing other supporting documents such as Pay stubs , work contract etc etc.

Most of the company does not support / encourage you get PR and hence they are reluctant in providing referent letter as required for CEC applications..

For the 3 rd year, most of the time, it would be your back home experience...and you would probably have experience letter when you have resigned it and that letter does not contain detailed job duties ...

Has anybody here in the forum experienced any questions mark for not able to provide proper reference letter for 3rd year,.....??

May I ask you why exactly they returned your application to avoid committing the same error? Thanks!

Mine was for the PhD stream, which I applied in November 2011. in the eligibility requirements, it was mentioned that as a PhD student, the applicant should be in good academic standing.
I thought sending an official transcript would work, but the application was returned and it was mentioned that you've not provided a proof of being in good academic standing as per your educational institute.
when I re-read the document checklist, I noticed that actually they've mentioned what evidence was required, which was attestation letter, but since it was one of the many mentioned items in one line, separated by commas, I had thought that other documents like the transcript will be sufficient.

That's why, I've learned not to ignore any single word of the checklists!

Make sense...I guess Those who are not including proper reference letter needs to provide an explanation letter supporting their reason for not doing so. And what are other documents, that we are providing to support that...

If you are applying under CEC, employment letters are required for Canadian work experience for the past 3 years. So if you've only worked for 2 yrs in Canada, then you need to provide an employment letter or letters that account for that experience.

All your other work experience obtained outside Canada should be included in the "personal history" section of the background declaration form(Section A).

If for any reason you are not able to provide the letter(s), you may submit documents that can satisfy the officer of your experience like paystubs, contract letter/job offer letter, job advertisement(if you still have it, as it will usually have a brief/detailed description of the main duties, etc) and write your main duties and responsibilities yourself and an explanation why you haven't included the letter. No guarantee that this will work, so best to get the letter(s).

Hey Senoritabella,
I have a question to you. I have applied in August 2012. I received my PGWP in December 2010. From December 2010-March 2011 I have worked at a pizza store for 4 months than in April 2011 I got my field job and working there since. In my application I have provided the reference letter for my field job which is obviously more than a year. My question to you is should I have included the reference letter from my pizza job as well and also during my studies I was working odd jobs at retail stores, should I have provided letters from them too??

No you do not need to provide any document to support your personal history. When you submit the application package, just follow the checklist and ensure you have provided all items from there that are applicable to you.
