Hi

I have a couple of doubts for the reference letter:

1. Is it necessary to mention working hours per week.e.g. 40 hours per week or would the wording full time employee be sufficient?

2. Is it necessary to put the salary details on the reference letter?

Thanks in advance. :)

Rule of thumb is to put everything you can think of on that. I got refused for missing duties on my reference letter.

"Full time" should do the job, but just to be care-free, mention number of hours as well.

2. Is it necessary to put the salary details on the reference letter?
If salary is not mentioned in reference letter, you should provide separate document proving it was a paid job.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hours worked per week is required. Every country/jurisdiction has it's own definition of "full-time," you have to prove you meet IRCC's definition.

2. Is it necessary to put the salary details on the reference letter?
Yes.

I'd say if you have the choice, make sure those are included in the letters as per CIC requirements.
If those letters cannot be redone (it can happen), providing T4 slips, ROE with a Letter of Explanation could fill the info gap. After all, CIC is only trying to verify that the work you mentioned is legit, corresponds exactly to what you said it was, and validate the working time.

If you can request HR to furnish you a detailed COE which includes hours worked and roles and responsibilities...that would be ideal. Draft the document and let them sign that.

Should save both parties the time and hassle :)

If for some reason your company is not willing to disclose any of those information, you can write a LOE explaining the situation, and provide documents, such as pay slips to proof your weekly hours, and salary.

Hi,

I have a question kind of relating to this.

I have worked for the same employer on and off for the last four years. They have provided me a letter meeting all the CIC requirements however my four years on and off work is contained on the same letter.

CIC is requesting separate files for each period of work.

Will I ask my former employers to write four separate letters or upload the same letter four times??

Many thanks for your help

Thanks a lot everyone for replying to the thread. I really appreciate your valuable feedback.

Is there an official link where CIC defines what need to be part of a reference letter. Please share the link so that me and other people can benefit from the information provided.

Hello everyone,

I had a back home experience for 1 year. I am wondering what is the format of the reference letter?
Is it a simple letter stating all the details that CIC ask for and signed and stamped by my old boss?

Because i had the experience in 2007-2008 I do not think that i can find the contract neither the pay stubs. But I can definitely make my old boss write the letter including all the details mentioned in CIC website.

Will CIC ask for additional documents such as pay stubs and contract?

they could, but the main document they need is the experience letter on the company letterhead containing all the elements they describe in the requirements with duties matching the NOC closely
