Red Seal Exam

I was wondering if anyone could advise on my eligibility to take a Red Seal examination. I am a British citizen and I currently reside in the UK and I am currently in the tentative stages of researching whether a move to Canada would be feasible for my family or not.

It seems to me that the best way to emigrate is to secure a job offer first, however in a lot of the job adverts I have read they call for a Red Seal certificate. It seems to be a bit of a chicken or egg situation! By trade, I am an experienced Industrial Mechanic specialising in air compressors and I also have a background in military aviation having spent 5 years in the Royal Navy as helicopter technician.

I understand that I may have to travel to Canada to sit the Red Seal exam, however I am not sure of the criteria I must fulfil in order to be eligible to do so. Your advice on my situation would be most welcome.

Thanks for your help.

I am under the same boat at the moment. Am from a visa free country. Wrote an instructor in Nova Scotia on this and he advised that a permanent resident visa is not required. However he did not tell me the procedure of this. Would appreciate any advice on this.
