Hello everyone! I have a quick question regarding my daughter and wife's PR applications. We are currently residing in Japan and I (The sponsor) plan to relocate back to Canada prior to my wife and child in order to get set up and prepared for their arrival. The first question is whether or not my wife and daughter have to BE in Japan in order to receive their visas or if its possible for them to come to Canada on visitor visas and receive their visas in Canada instead of Japan? I assume this is possible but if anyone has any further info regarding this matter please share it with me. Last question is regarding the approval of sponsorship eligibility. Will I (the sponsor) be notified once it is approved by email or phone? Thanks again in advance and any replies would be hugely appreciated!

Yes that is fine. They will most likely enter with 6 month visitor status at first. As soon as they get to Canada, she should change her address with the visa office to your Canadian address. Then when the PR is approved, they will mail her COPR landing documents directly to Canada, where you can just go to nearest USA land border to do PR landing.
Since Japanese citizens are visa-exempt, she should not need to send in her actual passport. They may just ask for photocopy to be sent closer to the approval date.

Once sponsor is approved (at around 1 month mark) they should send an approval letter via the email address you included in the app. A few people get a snail mail letter, and some people get nothing (maybe CIC entered the email address in wrong). If the timeline passes, you can always call in and CIC can tell you over the phone you were approved as sponsor, and re-send the approval letter if needed.

Is your child Canadian? I couldn't really tell from your previous posts. You say a few times that you're sponsoring her but you also asked about applying for her Certificate of Citizenship.

Hugely appreciated and extremely helpful! Thank you so much Rob!

Yes I assume she is. She was born here in Japan and I (the sponsor) am Canadian. I am also very confused as to what the best procedure for my daughter would be but at this time she's been included as a dependent child in our application. Perhaps we can change that later on in Canada though? That is what I am planning to do at this. Thanks for the reply either way.

If you are Canadian and can pass on citizenship, then your baby is automatically a Canadian citizen. In this case you can't add her as a dependent, you need to apply for her citizenship documentation.

She is Canadian if you were born in Canada or are a naturalized Canadian.

If she is Canadian, she should not have been included as a dependent in your partner's application and this mistake will probably lead to delays in your app. This happened to another poster as well.

I strongly suggest that you sort it out now in order to avoid further problems.
