Hey guys,

So I got married like a year ago. However we live in different countries because we both study (well, my spouse works and studies). Would this cause any issues with our Express entry application?

That would highly depend on your application type. If you are welling to add your spouse as an accompanying family member than proof of genuine relationship can be as little as providing marriage certificate and any common connection between you both like shared bank statement or simply an LOE explaining why you are living apart and how are you both welling to get together after moving to Canada. This case happens ALOT and even an LOE isn't required at all, as long as both of you were honest when filling the background declaration section of the eAPR and there was some match between dates that it would proof that you both had been in physical contact sometime back and hence you got married.

However, if you are going to add her as a non-accompanying family member and after landing you are welling to sponsor her under the family class program, then the proof of genuine relationship is going to be extremely high and you need to do some hard to proof that she is indeed your wife and you are indeed are going to host her and that your relationship is not depended on you being her sponsor but as her husband

Goodluck

Hey @yiso91, thanks for the answer.

No, my spouse will be accompanying me. Marriage certificate is presented, as I said, we got legally married like a year ago. We don't have a joint bank account, given that we both live in different countries. Regarding the dates, we have at least 3 holidays we took together and dates match more or less (given that we travel from different locations). However we weren't able to visit each other after marriage.

Anyone else with similar experience can shade some light?

I think you guys would be just fine. If you want to be 100% upfront about it , you can try to attach an LOE with your marriage certificate explaining what you just did here and add all the holidays you had together ( dates location..etc).

And the fact that she will accompany you is extremely in your favor

We already attached the marriage certificate as part of Post ITA file upload, so I don't think we need to upload it again with general LOE. But yeah, I think we can add couple of sentences in general LOE explaining our situation and point to our marriage certificate uploaded + we can also mention in LOE the dates in which we took holidays (they can also verify these dates from our travel history entrances).

Also, we are using my spouse's account as proof of funds, even though I am the main applicant. We also attached the NOC with Proof of funds documents, mentioning that proof of funds are coming from accompanying spouse's account and there's no objection to use the funds from the account for the application and further settlement.

I don't think you will have any issues. Me and my spouse have lived in different countries on and off over the years due to work assignments. Those periods were as long as 2 years. There was no issue in getting ppr
