Recent Computer Science Graduate - UK

Hi guys,

just trying to find out where I stand, and what my chances are. I've been applying for jobs since the 13th of June without any reply from any agencies/employers.

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, I'm sending my CV (UK CV) to employers but not getting any feedback negative or positive.

I've graduated this year in a computer science degree, my degree requires me a complete a internship which I have at a telecoms company, and i've been employed by them full time.

my work history:
Sep 2009 - Sep 2010 - Internship, Full Time (Software Engineer)
Sep 2010 - May 2011 - Casual work during final year & sponsorship during final year(Software Engineer)
May 2011 - Present - Full time employment(Software Engineer)

Is there any specialist recruitment consultants who can help my situation or is it just a case of keep trying. Also is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

The reason why you are not receiving replies is that in order to hire you, an employer has to prove to the Canadian government that they could not find a Canadian to do the job. Canada has a large number of Computer Science graduates and Computer Science specialists (some who are currently out of work). For this reason it would likely be quite difficult for a company to prove that a Canadian could not be found for the role.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying. However I think your chances of securing a job are probably on the lower end due to your field of focus and the fact that you don't have very many years of experience.

I would strongly recommend that you change your CV to a Canadian/North American format. Sending out a UK style CV is not a good idea.

Finally, you should look into a bunac visa to see if you qualify.

Hi Scylla,

First thanks for the prompt reply.

I have already checked the bunac scheme and I am eligible, but I'm not sure what move to make. Weather to go to Canada on the bunac scheme, or to wait work another year and then apply for a work permit. I'm wondering weather or not the bunac scheme would be a viable solution to extend and get a PR.
