For spousal sponsorship (PR application) how recent does the police certificate need to be (from the country of origin) if the spouse has been in Canada for past 3 years?

We have one that he got about 10 months ago, and I have searched all over the cic website and can't find the requirements for how recent it needs to be.

Thanks!

It needs to be from a date after your most recent visit. So if your spouse hasn't returned to the home country in the past 10 months, then that certificate will be accepted. If he has gone back, you'll need a new one

The logic is simple - the certificate needs to accurately represent all the time that you spent in a country. If you get a certificate that's 10 months old, then go back and commit a crime, your certificate is no longer accurate.

And they will know whether you returned with a simple passport check.

For the country that you currently reside in, the certificate cannot be more than six months old.

Thank you. Yes this makes sense. He's currently here in Canada so as I understood he doesn't need to provide the Canadian one, they will do it on their own at IRCC.
Ugh, he did go back for 4 days in January for work meeting, so guess we're requesting a new one.
