You don't have to go back to your home country to get CoPR or send passport (if you're not an exempt visa country) that i know of..
I'm pretty sure CIC will ask you to send your stuff through private courrier such as DHL or FEDEX and they will return it to you the same way.
I've heard people doing that.

Hey all, I just wanted to pass along my timeline and experience with the family sponsorship process.

First off, I am American, living in the United States. My husband and I married November 2013 and started the process July 2014. Below is our timeline:

July 31, 2014 | Submitted our application and payment
September 26, 2014 | My husband was approved to sponsor me
October 1, 2014 | Received the Sponsor Approval
March 3, 2015 | Received an email asking us to pay the Permanent Residence fee ($490)
May 28, 2015 | Started Processing the my application
June 11, 2015 | Received the PR in the mail
August 1, 2015 | Estimated Landing in Canada!

I hope this is helpful to someone. I know when I was waiting for the decision to come (I check the website neurotically) there were times when I would get super frustrated, but you just have to remember that this is a blip in time and that the decision is for the rest of your life! Just stay positive and good luck to you all.

How long did people wait before getting their COPR letter in the mail after the decision was made?

Especially would like to know about people already in Canada.

Thanks.

I'm waiting for mine and it has just been a couple of days so not expecting it just yet. Another forum member got DM a few weeks ago, and received the letter 4 days later. Although his was sent from U.K to U.K. address

I'm thinking a week for mine (UK being sent to Canada) but with Xmas I'm thinking a few days delay.

Time will tell I suppose.
Am I also supposed to receive an email message to my account with instructions? It mentioned that online.

Yep I did. I had two messages in MyCIC. One about the conditional PR rules/laws and another about COPR.

Ah I see. I haven't received any emails at all and it's been a few days.

Would I be right to assume I won't receive the emails until the person doing my application is mailing the COPR Letter?

The two 'emails' were in MyCIC.

Application/profile details

Then has the table with status.

Then below that it says

Application Messages

Underneath this, I had two messages waiting. Clicked them and opened up the PDF letters

That's interesting…. I received my documents today… that means it took just two days (and around Christmas!).

I haven't received any emails in myCIC account. Although there were a list of printed instructions with the COPRs.
