I have received an email last week requesting me to pay the RPRF. I have paid it on the second day. now I'm waiting for the PPR as from what I have been reading here, that this is the next step.
I have an issue that my passport is going to expire by the end of April 2018 and I was told that the PPR letter states that the passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
Now, my question is what can I do if I receive the PPR within the 6 months period? knowing that I can't renew my passport at all as I haven't done my military service in my home country. I'm planning to move to Canada as soon as I get the visa.

Anyone please help.

I think the main issue is what if you don't receive PPR on time? Isn't there any way to get your passport sorted out? RPRF doesn't inevitably mean you'll be getting PR, there's always a risk so be careful with that. As far as I know you need a valid passport with 6 months in in order to be able to enter Canada. Don't know if with a permanent residence status things might be loosened up. Good luck in all cases!

Thank you for your reply.
There is no way to renew my passport. I have contacted my embassy and they told me that the passport will not be renewed. However, I went through some similar cases here in the website and some of them were saying that they have included a letter with the passport explaining why they can't renew the passport and that the visa was issued till the expiry date of the passport. I don't have an issue if this is applicable to me as I'm willing to travel directly after getting the visa (hopefully if at all I got it).
Thanks again,

I have to agree with hamgha here. I certainly understand the difficulty of your situation (sorry, mate!) but I actually don't think receiving a request for RPRF is an indication that PPR is close...I'm sure I've ready some accounts of people getting the RPRF request very early on in their processing and then still waiting for a while for PPR. It seems counterintuitive (because one would assume CIC wouldn't ask for the RPRF unless they were ready to offer you permanent residency) but I don't think you can rely on this...

Well I hope you get it ASAP or at least before the passport expires. Good luck! An expert should be more able to help you in this case than I am.

Yours is an interesting case... if you don't mind me inquiring because I find this scenario so curious (you can tell me if I'm being too nosy)...:
Even if CIC does grant you a reprieve, and allows you to get the visa and travel on the almost-expired passport, what will you do once you're in Canada and the passport expires? As a permanent resident, you will still need a valid passport from your home country to travel... is it that you will be able to renew your passport once you get Canadian permanent residency because your new Canadian PR status will somehow exempt you from the military service requirement in your home country?

Even if CIC grants me a visa and I traveled to Canada, I can't renew my passport before Dec, 2019 as I'll be exempt from the military service by that date. However, I don't really need a passport once I'm there because I'm not planning to travel from Canada for at least 2 or 3 years.
I have contacted the airplane here (Qatar Airways) and they have told me that I will be allowed to travel on an almost expired passport if I have the visa.
My only concern is whether they will give me the visa or not..

Thanks,

Oh okay, I see! Good luck; I hope it works out!
