Hi guys, so I have some personal good news. I got the 'Ready for Visa' email from CIC about an hour ago :) ... I have a few questions regarding the next steps:

1) Does this mean that my PR application has been approved (at least unofficially) ? I ask because on my CIC account, it still says a background check is being conducted, etc.

2) Once I send the my passport to CIC, how long does it take approximately to receive your passport back ? That is, how long are you without your passport (you can't travel internationally) ?

3) Since my mailing address is US based, I need to provide CIC with a prepaid return shipping envelope for sending the passport back to me. What courier should I use ? Any recommendations ?

4) Will CIC be sending back the PR card now as well, or does that happen later ? Because I thought the PR card is only sent to Canadian addresses.

Thanks guys ...

Congratulations! Hopefully you have a great life in Canada!
1) This means you're done, yes. Very little chance of this going sideways from here
2) I believe it can take up to a month, but I am unclear on this
3) FedEx or DHL, if you can. Regular USPS stamped one may work too
4) PR card is after landing

Ideally you get a request letter to your CIC mail with the document giving directions on which service to use to send passport(s) for VISA stamping. That is the only way you can send passport. Once the passport is received by them, you can collect it or either you can ask them to courier to your present address.

PR cards are issued after you land in your respective province and applying it. Currently you will only have VISA stamping on your passport with some paper document along with it.

1- yes
2- average two weeks.
3- I used FedEx
4- It will take 54 days after landing.

Thanks guys for the quick response. I had some additional questions:

1) I'm only at my current address till the end of May. Is this enough time for sending and receiving the passport, or should I provide an alternate address ?

2) I think I'll use FedEx. Is there any specific service within FedEx which I should use for sending to CIC, and for generating the prepaid return envelope ?

3) Does the return envelope need to be of any specific dimensions (so that it's able to contain the stuff CIC sends back) ?

4) I read in another thread that we might need to ask FedEx to generate custom declaration slips (for the border Customs people) for both sending and return parcels ? Is this true ? If yes, how do I go about this ?

Guys, could someone please answer the above questions ? I need to act quick :)

1. Before May end you will be getting your passports back.
2. Check with your local FedEx office. Many would have approached FedEx with the same request.
3. Passport specific envelopes are available at FedEx.
4. Not sure. Again have a check with FedEx guys.

I don't mean to question your knowledge, but how sure are you that I can get my passport back by the end of May if I ship it to CIC today/tomorrow ?

Because the worst case would be that it arrives here after I leave and my landlord might throw it away or something (my landlord isn't exactly the best landlord in the world) :p ..
