Dear forum member,

Before some time I applied for FSW but was found ineligible. Now CIC send me cheque on my home address in the amount I paid with the initial application.
The problem is that at the moment I am in Canada on another type of visa and the cheque was sent to my address at my home country.
My parents send me a photo of the cheque and it seams as it does not have any date on it.

My family is coming to Canada after 3 months. Do you thing that if they bring me the cheques after 3 moths it will be valid so I can en-cache it in Canadian bank.
Or to be safer should they sent it by courier instantly?

Please everyone that has idea ... I really don't want to loose those money

Thanks

Does it have a Canadian bank on it? If so, tell your family to send it to you by courier immediately so you cash asap

No it does not have any name of a bank.
It have:
Government of Canada written with the Canadian flag,
my name,
money in CAD,
Data of issuance,
and Signature from Receiver General for Canada

Question 1: Can I cash it in any bank in Canada?
Q2: Do you believe it will be valid after 3 months.
Q3: Is it safe to send it by Currier?

Thanks

You mentioned below that it has the date of issuance on the cheque, then how is it you are saying it does not have a date?

Also there is no problem if it couriered to you.

It has no expiry date.
As I said before, my family is coming for 2-3 months, but because the cheque does not have expiry date on it I don't know if it will be valid in 2-3 months time.
I cannot assume that the cheque will be valid forever, right?

:) Cheques never have expiry dates on them.

Cheques older than six months will be considered stale-dated and will not be honored by the bank.

Thanks rizmayo for the answer.

Can I assume that I can cache the cheque in the period of 6 months after its issuance date.
I.e if it was issued on February 2nd 2014 I can cache it no latter than August 1st 2014?

And I can cache it in any Canadian bank?

Thanks

Well like I said earlier, cheques from Canadian Government never expire, but to be on the safe side, think of August 2014 as the expiry date. You will have to deposit the cheque in your Canadian bank account. You will not get cash for it over the counter.
