Hi All,
My study permit-1st attempt was refused.. I have applied for a post graduate diploma in strategic marketing at George Brown College.
I am 29 years old and from India. I have finished my PGDBE in marketing from India but since it wasn't a great institute I wanted to start studying again for a fresh start. I have work experience of roughly 6 years. Earlier I had enrolled myself for the Express entry program but it has expired now. However,my study permit was refused and I called for CAIPS notes.

As per the CAIPS notes, the visa officer has mentioned the below reasons for refusal of my study permit:
1)He/She is not satisfied that I will leave the country after the authorized stay(am assuming my earlier try for express visa made him believe so)

2) It also mentions that my career path is not logical as per my past studies and employment history (I did complete my PGDBE in Marketing but due to job issues due to recession I settled down for an Executive Assistants job and I applied for a course in Strategic Marketing at Canada so that it would benefit me get a good Marketing job in India)

I intend to apply for Study permit again. I don't have any intentions to stay back anyway.

*Will a recommendation or reference letter by my current boss help if he states that they will employ me back for a marketing role in the same organization? To be honest he is the one who suggested that I do a course in Marketing overseas so that i can change my career path and get good roles too.

Is a fresh SOP required now or repky to the refusal letter??

May I request help here. . It would be great if anyone can also connect me to somehow who can help me build a reply/SOP.

Cheers

In the CAIPS notes, did you find anything that says points? Like points system or similar stuff? And was there other remarks on the remark page?

If you want you can PM me the text of the CAIPS notes remark/observation section so I'll take a look.

I believe what stood out as unusual for them is that you already have post graduate diploma but want to study in Canada at the same level. This is usually frowned upon by CIC. They expect you'll study something higher than the degree you have. They might not care that your PGD institute was not good, they may only see that you are applying for the same level that you already have, and thus, questions the intention of your permit.

  • Ok, so to answer your questions:

    1. Yes a letter from your work would help a lot!! If your boss is suggesting this course and willing to have you come back to work, this should absolutely be included.

    2. Of course you need a new SOP letter! You need to clearly argue why you chose to do this course in Canada and this specific course and why not in your own country. Argue this clearly. Then I suggest a very clearly outlined letter addressing each and every point that they can refuse. On the refusal letter they list 5 or 6 points and then check off which ones apply. So in your SOP letter, address EACH point, not just the checked one. So what I mean is like this:

    Travel History
argument, blah blah etc etc etc
    Ties to home country
Argument, etc etc blah blah blah

Write 1-3 comprehensive paragraphs for each reason. Also include the stuff about why you chose this program, and your study plan. Under each argument, state what evidence you are including to provide the argument. That's how I got it after 3 refusals. My SOP was about 6 pages long in the end.
