I have a question for the experienced guys.

if i have received an australian PR while my application is still under process in CIC, should i go ahead and travel to aussie while my application is being processed or would that make the BG check much longer as i will have changed my residence to another country and quit my job?

Same here. I got my Australian PR while preparing and waiting for Canada.

Do you think we should mention it somewhere in the application that I got the PR from Australia.

If so, will it add any weightage or even reduce the weightage.

Positive in the sense, already my medicals and police are proven to one country's immigration authority.

negative in the sense - Canada might think, I will take the PR and not come to their country.

Some food for thought...

I did this and I have been waiting for PPR for 200 days now, while most of sept AOR received it

I got H1b and travelled to USA while my app is processing, now my BG check is long long long.....who knows when it will end...

and yes you would have to update your address and contact information
also keep in mind that lately they have been requesting another proof of funds with PPR from some people here on the forum, so if you go to australia make sure you have enough fund deposited into the bank there or back home for CIC POF

If you have a job in australia I would go anyway, if you don't, then don't go and waste money until you find out, unless you can handle being unemployed for a while.

Bottom line you are free to do what you want, but I wouldn't recommend it if your POF will take a hit.

P.S. I am not an expert.

as soon as i landed and rented a place, i sent an update and updated my address and contact info

i dont think canada would refuse an application on that basis, but what im afraid of is that the background check could take much longer as you have moved to a new country and they would have to check with both countries

yes the POF is another worry im having. if i start spending money there with no income then my POF would start to decrease and who knows how long will the process take.

my AOR is 28 march 17 so i still have a long way to go but i dont want to postpone australia more than august/september which is 5-6 months from the AOR

Whatever you do, don't go to australia and not report it, if you do that your background check will fail, they will know if you go and keep it from them

i know, i wasnt planning on keeping it. i was just wondering whether to wait for the decision from CIC first or go there and wait.

Notify them about your address. Getting PR wouldnt make a difference. Changing citizenship would need to be notified.

Australian PR costs more than Canadian PR. I would consider that an investment as Australia has a stable economy, hasnt seen a recession in years and the weather is good.

PR in the UK is a massive rip off. I think any visa in the UK is by far the most expensive I have ever applied for. It is not an investment. It just a waste of money, you will never see again.

@expat2be: Could you share the process of applying for Australian PR in a nutshell? Or maybe point to a website which does so? I am asking you because you have gone through the process.

Thanks in Advance!

It's similar to Canada. Look up your occupation. It is either in the skilled occupation list (SOL) or Consolidated skilled occupation list (CSOL). If your occupation is on the SOL, you can get PR. If it is on the CSOL, you need a state nomination. If you get a state nomination, you get a 4 year visa leading into PR. In that 4 year visa, if you need to work in that occupation for at least 12 months over a 2 year period, you can get PR and go anywhere you want. Until then you are bound to the state and cant go anywhere else.

You have to get your skilled assessed and then enter an EOI. They have draws and then send an invite. The good think about the Australian draw is that they announce the dates and the number of invitations in advance so you dont have to refresh the page like a Canadian draw.
