I just received a refusal letter for a 2 points short. I spoke with somebody she told me that 5-6 band in IELTS = 2points as ur englich proficiency. Band 7-8 = 4points. My question is 6.5 when round-off is 7 right?? How come I am awared for 2 point in my 6.5 score? Also..are they going to send back all my documents since they refused it, so that I can still use them for my future application. PLEASE REPLY...I AM SOOOOOOO ANXIOUS about that. THANKS

No, you only get 2 points, they don't round them up see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/EG7.pdf page 9
You should get your originals, except mark sheets and Criminal Records Checks.

My application was received last Dec.2007, by June 10,2008 they send me a refusal letter from DETROIT. No additional document asked, no interview. Automatic a refusal. That's why I feel so upset If I fall short by 2 points, I thought It can be done with an interview. Do you think so?

If you don't qualify on points, they are not going to waste time interviewing you are they?

Thank you guys for all the ideas, atleast its clear now. But one more question I emailed the detroit-im-inquiry.. they told me that "Documentation already submitted for an application remain on the retired file. They will not be returned." So this mean that I need to gather same documents to re apply? Or just the new documents (like new IELTS result) and my new application. Please clarify. Thank you so much.

hi ali786leo,

What do u mean by extension? U mean I can re-appeal too and ask not to close the application if I can retake the IELTS and gain 7points? Do u think I can do that? Re-application is so cumbersome, not to mention the application fee.

No you cannot appeal the decision. You can only send in a fresh application claiming your improved language ability. Your application was assessed against the supporting documents you sent in at the time of initial application. The officer awarded points for your language ability based on what you sent.

Hey Amoroso

I guess it could be better if you take some time, let's say six months or a year; in order for you to improve your English skills, it could also help you to gather some extra points on education, work experience... too many choices... so the next time you apply you can have biggest background so you can have extra support just in case the IELTS results are not such beauty.

Please don't take me wrong, I just did 5.5... Yes, shame on me... but guess what!! I am already in Canada; my background helped me a lot on the immigration officer's final decision.

Good luck my friend and please, do not give up at the first strike!!!

And as suggestion, if you can afford a lawyer, it could be better…but not necessarily.

They clearly stated that up to 6.9IELTS is 2 point. there is no need to round up or down if they have said up to 6.9.
I believe you can easily score 7 if you redo the test. good luck
