Receive Portal Invite while Outside Canada, what to do?

Hello,

I applied for family sponsorship through my spouse back in late 2023, applied as an Outland applicant but living in Canada at the time. In November 2024, my spouse and I left Canada to travel before we settle down. We have continued to maintain our permanent address in Canada and have no fixed address while travelling (all mail is still sent to our Canadian address where my mother-in-law lives and we will return to after travel).

Today I received the Portal Invite but I understand I cannot use the Portal if I am outside of Canada. The letter asks when I am returning to Canada. Initially we were planning not to return until May 2025, but I am worried this may cause issues with receiving my permanent resident card? Does anyone know if it is okay to use the Portal while outside Canada since I applied Outland initially (even though living in Canada at time of application), and is it okay to not return until May, or should we cut our travel plans short and return to Canada ASAP so I can use the Portal?

Also once I am back in Canada and use the Portal to confirm I am in Canada, how long does it typically take for my PR card to be mailed out to me? I am thinking of returning to Canada to get the PR card and then resuming our travels until May 2025, but if it takes weeks or months for the PR card to arrive in the mail, this may not be possible.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Tell them you are outside Canada and would like to submit passport for a visa/COPR. Then you submit it while abroad and proceed per normal. Give them some address abroad, but once you get the passport request, you can submit anywhere (although may take 2-4 wks to get it back).

So is this in effect changing it from an Outland in Canada application to a solely Outland application? I wasn't aware we could do this but if so, that sounds like a good option.

Outland is outland. You're not changing anything except the landing process.
