Reapplying for Masters Program

Hi All,

I have already completed my masters degree from USA, now I want to apply for masters program in Canada. The reason I am applying for Masters is that I applied for PHD program but my application was rejected as I dont have strong recommendations from my masters professor and also a research background.

Please advise whether I will get admit for masters program or not? Also please suggest some good universities for Civil Engineering.

You'll get admission in a masters program, shouldn't be a problem. Even I faced a similar situation. However, getting a visa for double masters is a different thing altogether.

You'll get admission in a masters program, shouldn't be a problem. Even I faced a similar situation. However, getting a visa for double masters is a different thing altogether.

Which university you got admit? and Did you gave IELTS exam? I heard that if you have degree from USA than you dont need IELTS...

I got admit at U of Windsor. IELTS is exempted for all universities that I applied.

It will not be enough just to tell the visa officer that you applied for PhD and had rejection because you never had good recommendation from your former lecturers due to your weak research background. Indeed you must prove why your first masters degree was rejected for doctoral studies. So you must go further to point to certain course grades you had in your first masters degree for which possibly did not help you to gain admission in doctoral studies and that necessitate your second masters degree. For example show whether you had weak course grades in research methodology, statistics or thesis during your first masters degree and these are the possible areas when you do not do well at the masters degree level will certainly prevent you from having position for PhD studies. So proving with your first masters degree transcript why you need second masters degree before you have a chance for doctoral studies in the near future is a must.

Its better you should go for professional pg diploma in construction which could relate to your background. After doing master's from india and going for master's again for abroad that's fully justify. Q You already done masters from renowned country its bit difficult for you to convince Vo for another master's.

Are you sure? I got into 2nd masters which cannot lead to PhD as it is a course based.

I do not think any University will admit any applicant who does not have scientific research background to understand PhD studies. If your first master's degree was a course based one then that was why you have not secured any PhD admission yet. Even in recent times one is supposed to show evidence of scientific publications after masters degree to gain admission to PhD programs. Again those with strong background in research methodology, statistics and thesis can easily get PhD admission without any scientific publications. Normally people who do course based master's degree aim at getting into world of work but not long term commitment like PhD studies.

Hello i've done M.Sc. IT and i will be applying for another master in Canada. Can I write in my SOP that, I've done bachelor in Computer Application which consist of three years. In my Country Only M.Tech is thesis based master degree and i was not eligible to get admission after bachelor so i joined M.Sc. IT , which was project based. now i want to go in research field ( Phd) but Canadian university required Thesis based master degree so I applying for Master in Electronics & Computer Science. This Degree will fill the gap in my knowledge between electronics and Computer science. I will be able to work on embed systems which require advance knowledge in electronics and computer science.

My 1st Masters was research based. Msc in Electrical Engineering. No publications but have done enough research work for my completion. Still was unable to secure a PhD position.
