We applied for immigration to canada earlier and got our PR status/card but have not met the 2 years in 5 years PR obligation. Our PR card expire on 2019. We currently live in the USA on a work visa and with all the new regulations being put in feel very stressful living here. We would like to reapply for immigration to Canada and checked that we have the necessary points to qualify under the Express Entry category. I know we will have to renounce our current PR status to reapply but have the following questions: 1. Will they reject our application if we don't give a strong reason to why we did not immigrate in the past. 2. To save time, while our reapplication is on process, can we renounce our current PR status and once renounced update them?

Until IRCC revokes your PR, your still a PR. Personally, I would, at the very least attempt entering Canada before renouncing your PR. If they report you, you can renounce at the POE. But I would t just give it up, even if I didn’t meet the RO.

Thanks. I did not mention that since we applied last we have a kid (US citizen), so not a PR. I have heard that complications can come in when we apply for his PR even if not reported while entering. Plus it is kind of stressful to move in with uncertainty that is why asking the 2 questions to get an idea of the odds of us getting a PR given the fact we are reapplying.
