Hello, would appreciate if you can help shed on light on my situation here.

My wife and I got our PR 10 years ago and she is now a citizen. As I had to take care of my father, I had not been able to renew my PR card. In 2015 I renounced my PR as I urgently needed a visitor visa to see my daughter's graduation. At this time, I am looking to reapply for PR under Family Class and will be sponsored by my wife.

1) is Family class sponsor the best option for me?
2) will the "renounce" experience negatively impact my application?
3) on IMM5533 for question "Information about Previous Examination (to be completed by the sponsor)", would this be YES for me?

Thanks so much.

No it won't matter, I was sponsored twice to Canada under the spousal family class with a different spouse the second time. I had to renounce my first PR status, so they could continue to process my second PR application. My visa and COPR was issued 2 weeks after I renounced my original PR status. This was back in 2006. Sydney Australia Visa Office.

Impossible to say whether you will be granted a TRV because your ties are extremely strong to Canada. Your spouse should at least start the sponsorship process. If your spouse is living with you abroad you will have to show that you both intend to resettle in Canada soon after getting PR to get approved. Have you been living separately from your spouse for a long period of time? The fact that you renounced PR and your wife remained in Canada May lead to questions about whether you remain in a relationship.

We did during covid due to visa restrictions. But other than that, I have been living with her abroad.

So you have been living with your wife for the past year? How much time have you ever spent in Canada since getting PR 10 years ago and were you the primary applicant on the PR application? When did you renounce your PR and how many times have you filed your Canadian taxes while in Canada or declaring your international income given that you are a tax resident if you family lived in Canada? How many times have you visiting Canada since you left Canada to take care of your father? Do you also work in your home country (assume a China)? Did you return tk the same job in China that you were doing before getting PR? Can you show that your father has needed you to care for him throughout the past around 10 years because of his his high medical needs ( proof of medical records, hospitalizations, diagnosis and prognosis, etc.) which prevented you from being able to live in Canada? Is your father recently deceased which would allow you to return to Canada to live full-time? You will need to prove that you are going to move to Canada permanently to be approved for sponsorship. Are you still working in China? Did you ever work in Canada and for how long? It sounds like you only need a TRV to attend the graduation unless you have concrete proof that you will be returning to live in Canada permanently. Having your wife live with you in China is unlikely to allow you to count the days towards RO if that is your plan since she is joining you abroad, you have spent considerable time apart and it sounds as though you may have never really established yourself in Canada. If your only goal is to attend your daughter’s graduation would start with applying for a TRV.
