Ready to Travel - for Valid COPR - "Extended Family"

I have a question if you can please provide a helpful answer.
Me and my son got COPR (we are out of Canada), is it ok if I travel earlier to Canada and my son (13 Yrs) comes later?
Can he enter Canada with his maternal grand mother who have a valid visit visa?
DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE ANY LETTER THAT MY MOM SHOWS IMMGIRATION OFFICER SAYING "THE MOTHER OF THE CHILD IS INSIDE CANADA..."

My apologies but I do not understand. If one has a COPR and single entry visa meant for landing, why can’t they just take a flight and come to Canada ? I mean is there a restriction that I’m not aware of ?
