Hi guys,

Hoping you have some thoughts to share - I had a request for my passport on Nov 5th, 2014. However, since I am traveling for business Nov 17 - 23, I will only be able to mail in my passport on Monday morning, Nov 24th. Since I have to travel to India again on Dec. 22nd, do you guys know if my passport will be returned in time? I am applying from Toronto to the Ottawa office.

I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation, and how long it takes for them to stamp and return the passport. Also I assume if we are doing Canada Post Xpress Post it needs to be sent to the P.O.Box?

Thanks in advance,

Misha

Hi Mdsouza,

Congrats for PPR!!

Generally Visa stamping and return cycle is 4 weeks. Being in Toronto also helps to decrease the transit time. You could save time using overnite service of Canada Post. ((You may want to send a note with passport that you have travel out on 22nd Dec. - risk here is that CIC may return passports without stamping)) There is certain degree of uncertainty of total cycle time case to case basis - some time it take even 5 or more weeks, even though currently many of stamping has been within 4 weeks of return. You can risk this but in case you see that return tracker has not been activated by 12th Dec 2014, you could ask CIC to return the passport which I hear they generally respond well and would return with or without stamping of visa.

Other alternate is that you request that visa stamping be done at India so that you could submit the passports on arrival in India. In this case your TRV would get revoked and you would have to enter Canada using the COPR after the visa is stamped and passport received back by you. This also means that you could not travel back till you get the visa stamped.

You should be able to select the option which best suits your plan or your comfort.

Cheers! :)

You can go to any of Service Canada offices around Toronto GTA, I guess you have to pay additional fee for urgent processing.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses. If Service Canada does indeed do this, why do they make us send passports to Ottawa to begin with??

Thanks!

Thanks rk. The issue is I only have a short period of vacation booked so I don't think the India thing would work. This all makes me so nervous. I was thinking of Express post and plan to attach a ticket and cover letter explaining my reason for the urgent request. Let's see what happens then...

Thanks,

Misha

Mine took 3 weeks, which is probably one of the longest I've seen in this forum.
Nevertheless, it's also a function of how many passport stampings they will do by the time you send out your passport.

Service Canada does NOT process any Immigration applications. The passport has to go to the processing office (Ottawa).

Re: "Ready for Visa" - Urgent Processing? UPDATE

Hey guys,

So just an update - I responded to the email requesting my passport the day I received it, explaining my situation, and they granted me an extension because of my travels. This might be helpful to note.

Thanks,

Misha
