Hey all!

My partner and I just sent in our outland pr common-law app - it just arrived at Mississauga today! YAY!

When we sent the app, my American partner's FBI police check was over 3 months old (about 4) - so we included a note that we are going to send in fresh ones.

My question is, should we get them done ASAP, and send them in right away?

I read if you get digital fingerprints taken instead of traditional ones, the wait time to receive the police check is much shorter.

If we SHOULD send them in ASAP - where should we send them? Mississauga? Or Ottawa?

Or should we wait until our application gets to stage 2 of the process?

Thanks so much for any info / advice!

I can't say about the digital ones - my husband did them and I'm not sure what he did. They may require traditional ones. But, I would wait until you get your sponsorship approval and a UCI and File number, so when you send them to Ottawa (not Mississauga) they can match them with your application. That's what I did, with no problems.

If you mean "digital fingerprints" as meaning using an FBI Approved Channeler to electronically send the data to the FBI, then as far as I know that is not accepted. You must mail in the finger print card with your prints to the FBI yourself.

And wait for sponsor approval like Zarilenth suggested. You need to provide a File Number with any extra documents you send to CIC and you don't get that File Number until AoR or Sponsor Approval.

Digital ones are faster alright, but the only problem is, they're not accepted by CIC (if you meant channeler method)

My husband re-did his FBI check since ours was expired by a couple of days when it was received. He did the traditional fingerprints (I think it was free at his local police station or really cheap). We ordered it right around the time we got SA and it only took 6 weeks to arrive. We then sent it to Ottawa via Purolator. That way we had the file number. A few days after it was received, my husband emailed Ottawa to see if they had it. They responded in the affirmative. The updated record was never asked for by CIC at any point. I doubt they'll get to your file within those 6-8 weeks it takes to receive it if you order it now.

I believe FBI won't process fingerprint requests with digital fingerprints anyway.

It seems as though some people on here might recommend to send your Application immediately and get the CIC process started while waiting for the FBI to return the police clearance...Can anyone who has filed outland recently fill us in on how the process played out for them? has anyone taken this approach?

I am currently torn between getting the process started with CIC and creating a case number then submitting the police clearance once received in a couple of months. People on here earlier suggested not omitting any documents with the application because of a delay it might cause. I guess the question is whether a hold up of a few days/weeks with CIC processing and requesting is better than a couple months of waiting on FBI to send documents back to us, then starting process with immigration...

Thoughts?

It is a bit of a crapshoot. Some people had minimal (or no) delays when sending in some missing documents later. Others have not bee so lucky. It really depends on your particular case and the case officer reviewing your application. I personally always recommend sending in everything up front.

We ended up sending in our application to get the CIC process started.

The moment my sponsorship app was approved, my partner went and got his prints re-taken, and we are going to send them in again now that we have a UCI.

I guess it really is just up in the air - we just didn't want to delay sending in our application any longer.

my spouse is doing the FBI crom check through a Channelel - here are the options:
1. Channeler send prints to FBI electronically
2. Channeler does electr finger prints but have them print the card out for us to mail in to FBI
3. Go to a Police station and get an INK fingerprinted and then mail in card to FBI

So can we confirm which one does CIC accept, which one should we be doing and including with application to CIC?

CIC does not accept channelers.
